I want to make custom pyramid shaped resin or fiberglass boxes the size of the tweeters that fit between the dash, windshield, and A Pillar. I'll get around to it someday.
Should be fine for space. Just remember, the door panels these days are close to $500 a pop for new ones. Don't want you to do anything you might regret later. But that is pretty much the ideal location on our cars.

I totally agree, I still need to decide what to do.. all I know is the tweeter just is not doing it down there in the door. I will have to wait and see
Most tweeter makers also make "pod" mounts. These are mounted with one or two screws. You could take out a screw from the "A" piller trim piece, and use this hole to screw in the tweeter. Then the wire could run behind the trim piece and under.(tweeter wires are ususally very small gauge wire so it would be almost invisible. This was another possibility I was thinking over for mine. It just doesn't look as clean as a flush mount.

Go to this site, click on ProSeries .5 components under car speakers, and turn to page 6 of the manual. It has an exploded view of a pod for the boston brand speakers. Most makers have these mounts for their tweets.
They make the mount. They call it a surface mount. Contact orion at http://www.orioncaraudio.com and have them ship you some or at least send some pics. They should only be $5-10 each at most.
Jeff- here's what worked for me; tweeters are high up, cross-fired, and sound great . I have the older dash and the tweeters tuck right up under the dashpad with the doors closed. This is a surface mount wedge (Vifa) which allows 30 or 60 degree aiming; after you attach it to the panel the tweeter just snaps in.

I did my setup like this:
I have a 3-way component setup with Image Dynamics CX62(2-ohm) 6.5” midbass drivers in the doors. Image Dynamics 4” mids and 1” tweets in the dash. (I mounted them in the stock 4x6 location in the dash with just a little modding). The tweets are angled to face my rear view mirror. Excellent staging from that position and I didn’t have to cut anything in my interior. ;)
You basically want your tweets as close to eye level as possible. That setup gcrouse has looks like good angling too. Good job gcrouse! Looks Good! Is that fiberglass you used to make that mid enclosure?
