Hello everyone, I have been researching a lot about this and almost have all the parts needed for this project. I have a double din 7" lcd that i will be installing in the dash and connect it to my m11x alienware netbook using hdmi. Now I am running into 2 problems, first how to power the laptop. I could get a dc to ac converter and just use the normal home power adapter or a car cigarette adapter for this laptop. Is one way better than the other in any way?.
Second problem was where to store the laptop in the car?. I will be controlling it with touch screen so don't need access to it.
This is for a 2005 c6
For the PSU everybody at mp3car uses carnetix so i think that is the route i am going to go as well, It does say it will turn the computer on itself but i don't have the option where it turns on when ext power is present. It does wake up from a usb keyboard from sleep so maybe an ultra mini usb input device to bring it back.
However since i only need the carnetix for powering the laptop , can i just buy a normal dc-dc inverter and use the laptop's home charger to it directly?
Laptop has 5.1 out so it will connect directly to 2 amps for front, rear and a sub output. I didn't even think about the amps draining battery , What kind of a controller do i need to prevent that?
The easiest thing IMO for the amps would just be to power them off RAP or normal switched power, but add an additional bypass switch (possibly controlled from the computer) if you want to run them when the car is off.
Honestly, the guys on the other forum know much more about car pc's. Most of what we deal with here is vette specific, and very few have done a full blown pc.
