Default How to make a simple mounting rack?

Originally I was planning on mounting the Arc Audio XDi805 and the Focal crossovers behind the passenger seat. However, after removing the seat and looking at the area behind it, I prefer to not mount anything there. I want to have easy access to those components for tuning, airflow, and future replacement. The flat area in the hatch is much better. I've seen many nice amp rack, holding multiple amps with lights,..... I don't need that, just a simple base will do. So I have the piece of wood cut out, will get some black carpet to cover it, how do I fasten the board to the car? Should I cut a larger piece of board? Also, where can I find this type of carpet? Thanks,

Epoxied "Elevator bolts" are a better solution. They mount to the bottom and add no added height. I plan to use these behind the seat, but they'd be great in the hatch too, a must for a vert. They come in various lengths ...

Mine just lay's there not attached, if it's cut where it fit's close you won't need any attachement points at all a thing called gravity will keep it in place, I know it may go flying in a crash but you would be surprise how stable it is.

Those elevator bolts look like a great idea, if you're willing to penetrate your carpet.

Happy to contribute thanks, just some small cross slits w/an exacto here and there and they'll pop through to be bolted. I used these for camera mounts and the flange is 1" in diameter, plenty for the epoxy to hold

Yeah those elevator bolts are a great idea. Another way I thought of is to wrap up the board in matching carpet, then use velcro to make it stay put. Any idea where to find the carpet that's similar to the OEM stuff?
Thanks,

Better yet, maybe a lot of velcro on the amp will grab onto the carpet loops, especially if you use a bunch of it. The carpet is already there, and a board wrapped in more carpet will be just thicker. The point with the elevator bolts is to eliminate the thickness of the plywood, so the amps are lower. For me I'm putting it behind the seat, so the seat can go back as far as possible.

I had a good idea for a amp rack in the far back of the car, any interest in mounting back there ?

Please, for your sake and others, please finish the job and properly secure your amp rack. Velcro is fine as only as a temporary solution to get cable lengths and more solid permanent mounting hardware sorted out. An amplifier can become a lethal projectile in even a minor accident. If your insurance company adjustor found that you had not secured your amp rack and it was the cause of any damage, I would be surprised if they would cover any of the costs. Sorry to sound preachy...

Kale, I like your clever solution with the rear speaker mounts

I would worry about non permanent solutions in the case of a rollover/car crash.

Thanks,
Yes, you can order carpet by the yard (72" wide) that will match ebony perfectly. (Approx. $35.00 per yard)

Here is a link to it.

Use the 'Select by Item' button.

Next, select your Yardage.
Then click on 'Truevette'
Go to the second page and select T912. It matches great.

Just want to make sure I understand you clearly, the width is always 72", I only need to select the length? For example, if I select 1/3 yard, I will get a piece of carpet that 72" x 12"? Thanks for the link.

If you do the bolts, get the best epoxy and slather some over the edges. I'll post shots of mine when I do it next weekend ...
