I know you are both among the resident experts... I have a 99 vert with the bose cd/12 disc changer. IS IT POSSIBLE to add a jl audio stealth box and external amp to the stock system and make it sound good? What amp (not too crazy in price) would you recommend, how many watts for that sub, I think its a ten inch. Also I like 99 ht's ideas about running tweeters on the pillars, and changing the rear speakers, but in the vert, when the top is down, the system is def. not loud enough on the expressway, what do you suggest?
I am concerned that I will not be able to find an installer in my area (outside of chicago) that understands the PROPER way to interface with the stock HU as described by 99HT. In the vert, do I need a sep amp for the rear speakers or will it not help anyway due to the lack of sealed enclosure and poor placement (esp. when top is down speakers will be entirely covered.) Finally I don't want to spend over a grand. I can get the stealth box for 400, your help and suggestions are needed, also what should I pay for install, thanks,
ps, in the LIMITED space of the vert, if the stealth box will take the center compartment and the changer gets moved to one of the side compartments, where do you recommend putting the external amp :( I want to have a little storage room for a suitcase?
A'tsa lotta questions. You seem to understand the basic limitations of the system. If your goal is more sound, then you will need to add amps and new speakers. You will need to decide if you want to keep the Bose sub-amp/speaker system. This one choice will determine what speakers you will choose.
You can buy some components off ebay to save money. Test them out at your local stereo store.
