Default Power cable problem .. Need your help bad (pics)

I didn't get a reply from the other post I made about this ... so here is a re-write with photos:

I really need some help from anyone that has installed an audio sytem in there C6.
__________________________________

Folks ... I have a major problem with my 2011 GS.

I am installing a new audio system and need to install a heavy 4 guage power cable from the battery to the amp that will be located behind the passenger seat.

Now for my problem ... I removed the battery to access the large rubber boot behind the battery on the firewall.

I was told that you can run wire through this rubber boot to inside the car. So I pushed the power cable I need to install through a slit I made in this large rubber boot. Of course, it only went in a few inches and the stopped because it hit on something inside the car.

I looked in the area where this wire should be poking through, and to me it looks like it would be behind the fuse panel forward of where the passenger would place there feet (same fuse panel that the NPP exhaust system fuse is).

The first photo shows this fuse panel with the 2 large wire bundles connectors removed:

I then dropped the fuse panel by removing 3 screws that hold it down. With those 2 large wire connectors removed, the fuse panel layed down and I was able to see what was behind it .... Nothing as far as the power cable I pushed through the firewall.

Lastly, the photo below shows the area just to the right of where the fuse panel would be located. There is a large rubber boot (red arrow pointing to it) .. but I don't see my power cable there either.

Does anyone here have any idea as to where my power cable would enter inside the car when pushed through that rubber boot behind the battery?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Ron,

The grommet is higher up in the footwell. You need to remove the plastic thing above the footwell by popping two plastic pins and removing the footwell light. Stick your head in the footwell looking up, you should see wires going through the firewall. When I get to a computer I will see if I have pictures.

Btw, it may be easier to get the wire run through the grommet by going from the cabin into te engine compartment.

double sided boot!

Ok, well now the problem is .. if the boot is double sided, how the heck do I get a hole in the other side of it? Of course, even if I get the power cable through the other side of the boot, where does it enter into the interior of the car?

Maybe I am going about this all the wrong way!

For everyone else here that has ever put an aftermarket audio system in the C6, how did you route the heavy power cable from the battery to inside the car?

This can't be that difficult ... or maybe it is?

Thank's

kedar ...

I removed that plastic panel that has a light in it (it's just hanging there now by the wire that connects to the light bulb) ... I just didn't see anything up in there.

Well, I need to go back out in the garage and look at this again. Working with a flashlight is a pain .. and my car battery is disconnected so that foot light don't work either!

this is the best pic that i currently have access to:

the right side of the blue wire at the top is going to the grommet... you should have an idea where this pic is taken relative to your car... you see the fuse box, the big wire connector, and the car's wiring harness.

you need to look up in the footwell to find the grommet. it is easier to do this laying on your back with your head in the footwell.

i would suggest you start over from scratch. remove the electric tape from the grommet in the engine compartment. you want the power wire to run through the grommet along with all of the other wires. much easier to get the wire to go from the cabin into the engine compartment. i would suggest you get something stiff like a coat hanger, attach you wire to it with electric tape, lube it up with some lubricant, and push the wire / coat hanger through the grommet from inside the cabin. this was not easy. it would help if you had someone helping pull the wire once they see the wire / coat hanger.

i would also defer to pentavolvo on advice on how to run the power wire, so if my suggestions are contradictory to his, then disregard what i wrote.

another pic that may be somewhat helpful:

the right side of blue wire in the background, at the top, is going to the grommet. when you look at this photo, don't confuse the power wire with the blue/white speaker wire. the blue power wire is in the background. the speaker wire is at the top of the photo, but it is in the foreground. my power wire runs alongside the car's wiring harness.

it is possible that you have to remove some zip ties to get better access to the grommet. i remove the zip ties to push the wiring harness around to make more room for my amps in the footwell.

Ok ... I removed the battery again and pushed real hard on that heavy power cable. It finally jushed through to the inside of the car.

Here is where it goes in behind the battery

Here is where it comes out in the cabin area (above and to the right of the fuse panel)

Great! Good job running the power wire. What's next in your install?

kedar ... And thank you for the help. In fact, I think we both posted those photos at about the same time.

Well, I have the power cable at least into the car. I have the cubby sub installed. I attached the AOEM-GM24 to the stock Delco radio and ran the interconnects and turn-on wire down the center to back behind the passenger seat. I have a board that the amp will attach to. Next, I need to glue the board to the panel behind the seat.

After that, I need to replace the door and rear speakers and run speaker cable to all of them (including the sub in the back).

Just kinda doing this a little at a time.

Ron,

.

I guess the power cable needs to be routed under the carpet somewhere along it's outer edge (close to the door)?

Or would it be better run somewhere else?

Either way, I guess I will need to remove the carpet in front and maybe the passenger seat?

No need to remove the carpet, but you will need to pop out the door sill piece. Start by pulling straight up on the rear edge until it's at about 45*, then pull straight back towards rear of car. Pay attention to how plastic overlaps in the front so you can get it back together properly.

Once the sill is out the carpet will just push away from the edge so you can put the power cable into the stock 'clips' that the other wires are in.

Run the RCA's up the other side of the seat. With center console removed carpet will easily pull down from there also.

Speaker wires can go anywhere, they won't get or cause interferance with anything else.
