Default Door Panel removal / re-installation

I have recently installed a Pioneer X930BT from (Dennis at DD mods) in my 06 coupe and love it. I have been talking to Dennis about speaker options for the doors. I am leaning towards the kicker upgrade special for the rears/doors. Does anybody have photos ( step by step) that they can share for the doors as far as removal and re-installation? If I'm understanding this right the 3.5 tweeters will have to be installed in the door panel and not actually the doors itself? I have looked at the C6 fact section for door panel removal and have not seen any photo's of the door panel being removed just photo's of the doors with the panels already removed. From what I'm reading it appears these door panels are a PITA which makes me a little nervous . I know Dennis has sold quite a few of these kicker sets so far. Can anyone who has received this combo and have already installed it chime in( how was the install and sound). I plan on installing a box with two 10's and a amp that I will be purchasing from Dennis next month. Was hoping in the meanwhile to tackle this project. Any help would be much appreciated especially photo's !

Thanks in advance

This thread has some pics.

On the drivers side you need to remove the oval plastic piece under the pull handle, then remove the two T30 Torx screws. With screws removed you just have to pull the panel off. Start at the bottom, near the rear, there is a small indent if you feel around or look up at the bottom edge of the skin. Use a panel popper tool (small plastic pry bar) or a screwdriver with a towel covering it to get the panel started. There are about 10 plastic pins that will make a NASTY sounding pop/grinding noise as they come loose, it will scare the shiznit out of you, but that's normal. Pull the bottom straight out until about 30*, then push straight up to release the metal clips at the window ledge. It helps if the window is down for panel removal and reinstall.

Passenger side doesn't have the plastic oval, you need to pop out the door button with a tiny screwdriver to get at one of the T30 screws. Pry from the bottom/lowest side first. The other screw is in an exposed hole under the handle. Same nasty pins on that side.

To reinstall it may help if you remove the 'rubber' lining that's on the inside of the window glass, it's easier to see where the metal tabs go with it out. The lininig just pulls out and goes back in just as easy. I always start at the front edge first, get one metal tab inserted, then line up the plastic pins in front, then slowly get more tabs into window opening, line up pins.... work your way towards the rear. You'll probably have to start over once or twice if one of the middle metal tabs pops out.

The speaker you'd replace is on the door skin that comes out, any aftermarket 3.5" will have the bolt holes line up perfectly with the one you take out. I believe dennis will send adapters for the wires if you get the package, so you don't have to splice anything.

I posted a 'how to' for the rears in the C6 audio FAQ thread

One thing you might want to do is order some panel pins and receptacles. The odds are probably about 33% likely you'll need them. Either the receptacle breaks or deforms as you pull the panel off, or the pin breaks when you go to put the panel back on. Usually one of the last 3 pins... so you have to pull the panel again, possibly breaking more pins/receptacles.

The reason you should order them ahead of time is you can find them on eBay for about $1 each. Or you can buy them from the dealer for $4-$5 each the day you're trying to put the panels back on - if they have them. Otherwise, you'll have to wait a few days to put the door panels back on. Plus - it's cheap insurance. If you have them, you probably won't need em. If you don't have them, you're bound to break one!

Buy a package of 15 of each the male and female pins for the door panels (the males go into the door panel and the female into the actual door)

Here are a couple photos that will show the wire loop technique to pull up on the metal brackets. It helped tremendously.
