Quick stereo question
Was looking to make an investment of about $500 in upgrading the car stereo, since it now requires the old-fashioned cassette adapter to play his iPod. Plus, the quality isn't very good.
My question is can I get by with just swapping out a head unit and speakers?
It seems like when I start pricing amps and subwoofers, the price just about doubles (with the install).
Most of those after-market head units look like they push about 50 watts. How much more is that than the factory unit? Will he notice a substantial upgrade in both volume and quality?
Tx for any help. You guys have helped me a lot in the past.

That being said, swapping out the head unit for one that has an iPod/aux input improves the freq response considerably, and swapping out the speakers will allow him to hear the full range that the deck can now put out, so it should be a considerable upgrade if the components are selected wisely.
Volume may increase as long as you go with fairly efficient speakers.
