Unless those are really 5.25's he's installed, it looks like he mounted the front of the speaker to a board to "space it" from the opening
I centered the speaker perfectly in the door opening and the cone was not contacting the door. I had to modify the stock grill to fit over the Kappa tweeter bridge. It cleared the window, but it was very close.
