C6 head unit swap security question
i bought a 6 disc unit from a member to replace the base single disc in my '07. i finally got to install`it today and here's what happened. i put the ingnition in acc. mode, turned on the radio, tuned in a station or two, fiddled with some settings, and everything seemed fine. went to put a cd in and after pushing the load button the display said 'full'. so i pushed the eject thinking he left it loaded unknowingly when he removed it from his car, and the display said 'cd mechanical failure' or something of that nature.
so now i'm thinking i was sold a faulty unit. then i remembered the manual specifically said to turn the ignition to the on position to load cd's. even though i didn't see what the difference should be, i switched from acc. to on. immediately the display said 'locked'.
i had expected to have to visit the dealer to have a reprogram done when swapping this unit in, but i thought i wouldn't have to do that when it was working fine on acc., but evidently when the ignition is actually turned on is when it locks.
so here's my question. was all that 'full' and 'mechanical failure' business that was displayed while in acc. mode simply caused by the fact that i hadn't had the reprograming done, and that's just what happens if you haven't turned the ignition on yet? now that it's locked i have a fear that i will spend the money for the reprogram just to find out the cd player is actually malfunctioning.
any insight into this situation would be greatly appreciated.
I have no idea when the 'locked' message normally shows up, or if you can insert/eject while it is locked.
Let us know what happens.

i don't know if anybody knows what happens when you try to operate a foreign unit before it locks. at least i know the radio works fine.

now that it's locked, if i push the unload button it still says cd mechanical failure in the window. the changer mechanism cycles when i open the door or hatch even with the ignition off too!
it would really suck to spend the money to have the programming done and find out i have to take this unit back out because it's not working properly.

I think the ACC ON operation of just the radio is a fluke/loophole in the radio's operation/programming and as you found out, once you tried to use it normally, it's locked.
evidently when you put a foreign oem unit in your car, it will work on acc. position. when you turn the ignition to on it locks. i had the reprogramming done today and it does the same thing it did before it locked, which means the cd changer is bad.

thanks for all the input.
