Default Need help securing shallow mount sub box

Hi guys- I recently got a 2007 Coupe (had an "incident" with a concrete wall in my C5... and the wall won) and have been refining the stereo. In my C5, I had a sub in the center storage area in the rear, but had to go with a low profile sub and box for the top to fit in the back. I am trying to come up with a good option that will help secure the sub and box.

1) I have considered putting a strap around it, but not sure how to secure it
2) I have thought about putting a board underneath the carpet and then attach the box to it, but not sure the top will still fit.

I have included a few pictures of the setup:
1) Sub: TS-SW3001S2|S4
2) Sub-box: UD-SW120D
3) Amp: GM-D8500M (mounted behind the passenger's seat)
4) Deck: AVIC X930BT

The area where your box is sitting is not completly flat, there are some ridges if I remember correctly. You could fill the area between the ridges with some small strips of wood. The strips could be glued in, or secured with some screws and washers, then after putting the carpet back, the box could be scred down from inside the box to the strips you attached.

Might be an option, im sure others will have some ideas also.

LionelC5 is right... there are some lower lying areas that could be filled with wood strips and glued down to keep it from moving on you. Take a look at the picture I attached below, and you will see the areas that he's talking about.

I think that the rear hatch latch area has some mounting bolts that go through the rear part of the car... you might be able to fabricate a set of brackets that tie off of there to the back/bottom of the box. This latch assembly is from a Z06 so it's going to look a little different from the Coupe, but it might help you get the gist of what I'm saying:

If you have no issues with drilling some holes into the back internal wall, you could also just tie into the back of the box in all four corners with bolts that pass back through the wall, then reinforce it with a backplate and secure it with some washers and lock nuts... but I think that LionelC5's idea is the best.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Mark

On my old boxes I used a plastic coated steel braided lanyard attached to pipe brackets on the box and bolted to the car at the roof storage clips. You could do something similar on the back wall if you can find a good anchor point.

Easy fix is using Elevator bolts and epoxy. Remove the carpet, figure where to mount them, mount, then cut a small slit in carpet for bolt to stick through, then bolt them down. I used them for my behind-seat DQXS

So, I forgot to mention that this is a downward firing sub, so it complicates things a bit. I liked the solution of filling in the ridges with stips of wood, but couldn't come up with a way to attach the box since the hole is on the bottom. That said, I think I'm going to go with the lanyard solution that markcz recommended (thanks) and attach one end to the box and the other to some bolts in the back. I'll take pictures when I'm done.
