Default Damaged

Hey guys, I ordered a sub and box and it arrived today via UPS. When I signed for the package, I noted top of the box (one of the edges) had been caved in about an inch or two. I noted it on the electronic receipt I signed.

When I opened the box and pulled the enclosure and speaker out, part of the grill was also caved in.

My question is should I just pop the grill and see if anything else is damaged? I guess I am looking for damage to the cone. Anything else I should check for?

I attached pix. Not sure how well they came out. Person and company who I ordered from seems to be good people and I sent them an email with pix as well. I haven't heard back from them, but it's after 5 and it's Friday. I only sent the email a few minutes ago.

What's my next step? Was gonna have an installer install it tomorrow. It's custom for a C6 Vert.

The dent doesn't look too deep, so the sub is PROBABLY fine unless the rubber surround somehow got punctured, but you really can't tell without firing it up.

I would definitely take the grill off and give the sub a good visual inspection. Maybe even carefully push straight down on the center of the cone and make sure the coil doesn't rub.

If you want to get the install done, the grill can be changed out later with just a screwdriver.

Don't I have to take the trim piece out to get the grill out? And the screws are the ones holding the speaker to the box.

Yes. Remove the screws and the grill and sub will both be loose. Pull the sub out and give it a good inspection while you're at it, just be careful about the wires attached.

You can replace the screws without the grill if you don't like the way it looks, or put them both back.

Be careful not to overtorque the screws when you replace them. It's hard to do, but possible to strip out the fiberglass.

I can do that. Got the trim ring and grill off and man, whatever hit that grill was a blow. It took a lot to try and push out the dents in the metal grill.

However, it was packaged really poorly. Just some bubble wrap and old UPS envelopes wadded up. It was in a huge box (way too big) with a big gap between the box and rest of the package. Nothing to protect the speaker at all really.

I mean, given the way UPS stacks things, you would think you would take precautions. At least some styrofoam or something.

When the speaker goes back into the enclosure, do I have to line up the holes perfectly? I mean I'm dealing with carpet here and it's almost impossible to tell where the screws originally went.

Needless to say, I'm bummed. Been waitin' a couple of weeks for the sub and box.

You know what I should have done? I should have bought everything, cruised up to Augusta, and had you put it in Mark.

If we can work out a weekend that works for both of us, come on up

I would try to find the holes by running your fingers around the inside of the box, they need to be lined up where they were.

Even with the box being loose and bouncing around, subs take a beating just doing what they do. Unless there's obvious physical damage to the cone or surround it should be fine.

Yeah, I took the trim ring off, pulled the speaker out and looked as best I could. Everything seems OK.

Put it all back together with a couple of slight impressions in the grill. Pushed out the major dings.

Will fire it up tomorrow and see what happens.

UPDATE: Fired sub up and it worked perfectly. Sounds unbelievable.

The bass was so strong I had to retune the amp somewhat. It's a monster.

Very, very pleased.

BTW, new grill on the way from vendor.

Which sub enclosure is that? Do you have any pictures of it installed in the car?

It's a 10". Fits in the driver's side corner of the trunk. The bottom part rests in the cubby. I will post pix tonight.
