Default question about C6 bluetooth

Curious:
Is the bluetooth contained within the NAV unit? If you replace the NAV had do you loose bluetooth?

Are the steering columns wired for the steering wheel controls even if the buttons are not on the wheel? Can you add bluetooth to a 1LT and have it interface with the radio?

thanks in advance

Bringing this back up......

I have a 2010 GS. No NAV or Bluetooth. I'd like to add factory bluetooth but not the NAV.

Is that possible? Can I just add the buttons to the steering wheel and pop in a BT module under the dash somewhere? I know when I pulled the NAV from my Denali the bluetooth still worked.

thanks

In my '12 the BT was part of the onstar setup, I don't think you can add JUST the BT. Also, the wires are not present in the steering wheel if your car didn't have any buttons from the factory. Search 'clockspring' in C6 sections and you'll find threads that detail that.

If you really want BT I'd suggest an inexpensive aftermarket HU over the cheap clip on BT modules.

Just an fyi....

I have an 09z that came with factory Bluetooth, but without nav. I wanted to add the nav and I purchased a nav unit out of an 08 from here to try it. The unit worked fine and the steering wheel controls for the stereo worked fine, but there was nothing when I tried the Bluetooth buttons. I replaced that unit with one from a 2010 gs that has factory Bluetooth. That unit works fine, all buttons and Bluetooth functions correctly.

SO.....if the onstar matters or not I don't know,as both cars have onstar, but I do know that a unit out of a 2010 will in fact work fine in a 2009......so the Bluetooth function is at least partly contained in the head unit. I don't understand why GM has a different part number and much higher price for an 09 unit when compared to the 2010. Seems as if they are all backwards compatible.

you can find used base Bose head units here from Bluetooth cars for about 100....why not try to get one, swap it out and add the buttons and wiring,, my guess is that it would work. Would be an inexpensive project to try it....good luck.

AFAIK, the component part that contains the BT hardware and allows it to function at all is part of the OnStar module. The HU is what controls the functions of the module, and the steering wheel buttons are what tell the HU what to do. I'm guessing that you'd need all three (oem BT steering wheel buttons, oem HU with BT programming, and oem OnStar module) to get factory BT functioning in your car. Don't forget about the microphone also.
