Default Help with upgrading stock C6 stereo

Hey Audio/Eletronics guru's,

I would like to give my stock C6 stereo some upgrade but funds are tight as you can imagine. Can you give me some advise on where to start and what would give me my biggest bang for my buck?

Thanks in advance.

I think the best bang for the buck is an after-market amp with some speakers and a sub.

You can leave the HU as stock and save some $$$$.

A bridged 4-channel amp feeding components in the doors and a sub in the back is best way to get a good system for as little cash as possible.

Thanks for the note. My vette is a convertilble and my budget is somewhere around $1-1.5K. Also, I live in the Dallas area, do you know anyone who I could trust not to tear up my car?

Thanks again for the help!!

Default Stereo Upgrade

Hey,

Great info and thanks for the timely reply. You mention a list that adds to $999. I assume that uses the same head unit. Will this stuff make a big difference with the same head unit? The new head unit for $699 is pretty steep, think I need it?

Also, is this something I can install myself or should I take it some where?

Can't thank you enough for the help, if you get a chance and call me tomorrow, my # is 214-674-8486. Thanks

The weak link in oem system is the speakers, followed closely by the amp. The radio actually puts out an unmolested full frequency line-level signal to the Bose amp, using an adapter that taps that signal and adding amp/speaker combo like what Dennis listed above would make the oem radio sound TONS better.

That is great to hear because I was scared to death of changing the way my car looks on the dash and also digging into it.

Is this the type of thing people install themselves? I'm pretty good with my hands but am also scared to death of f ing up my car.

the radio price also includes the harness, dash kit and antenna adapter..normally 139.99 just for these.

Dennis,

Sorry I missed you yesterday. I'll try again today. Question, if I keep the same head unit, can I add the capablility to hook my MP3 up to the stereo?

Thanks

I kept my stock head unit and did a system very similar. Sounds much, much better than before.

I put the amp in one cubby and the sub in the other. I, too, used a Vette Nuts box. Didn't take it too much room.

Default new head unit

Dennis, did some digging regarding new head units. What's your opinion of the Kenwood vs the Pioneer?

I myself am a big fan of the Kenwood
However I do not have any left instock at this time for 2012 90 series models. I have an order in with KEnwood for more but its not looking good that I will get them. They will be releasing the new model info or shall I say allowing me to release the info in a few weeks. The new models will be shipping towards the end of January

The Pioneer x940 with install items is 699.99 plus a 100.00 mail in rebate
the Kenwood will be 999.99 and no rebate on a similar model for 2013
