I searched around but couldn't find much on this location. I was thinking about mounting it between the exhaust pipes but further back to reduce the heat passage.
It would work between the pipes, but may get toasted. Only issue could be how low the camera is sitting, making it harder to judge distances.
Last install I did I put it above the license plate like your last pic shows. Drilled two tiny pilot holes and used wood screws to attach camera (per car owners request). It worked great and looked much better than I expected.
I have mine mounted in the first location you show.
It works pretty well for judging distance behind you - which was the main concern for me. No problem so far with heat (2 years). I really didn't want the camera poking out above the lic plate.
Downsides: camera will get fogged up in certain conditions from exhaust steam. Very little sense of positioning of the rear end. Higher mounting location lets you place the sides of the rear end better.

If the above isntanissue for you, let me know and I'll try to take a pic. Running short on time, somay not be able to get to it.
