I purchased a JL stealthbox for my c6z, I am going to use the stock deck and only plan on using the amp for the subwoofer; the sub and amp will be the only addition to the factory system. Can anyone recommend a good amp? I should use a mono amp right???? The amp power ratings need to match that of the JL sub correct? Thanks! (car audio is not my strong suit!)
I believe the 'normal' sub that comes in that box is a single 4ohm coil rated 50-300wRMS.
I'd look for a mono amp with RMS rating in the 250-350 range AT 4 OHMS. Many (if not all) companies advertise amps at the highest RMS rating for the lowest ohm load that they're stable at.
Something like the Kenwood Excelon X500-1 is perfect. It's rated 500wRMS at 2ohms, but 300wRMS at 4ohms (that's what you need).
You'll also need to buy/make an adapter to get the signals from the HU (low freq signals are not present at the normal speakers). I'm using one of THESE

I have a Stealthbox in my C6 and have it powered with a JL 300/2v2. Had the whole system powered with a 5 channel but on the recommendation of a JL executive down in Miami went with the 300/2. He was right, it sounds great.
