Re: Tweeter imaging, dash holes too far away? (ld85)
actually, farther away is better for imaging. unfortunately, each tweeter should be aimed at the opposite side, so it might mess up the imaging, anyway.
Re: Tweeter imaging, dash holes too far away? (Kale)
You could and probably should mount the tweeter in the dash. I mounted a set in a dash of another car I once had using a back strap from a radio. I bolted the strap across the two diagonal screw holes for the speaker and bent it to get a good mounting depth and direction for the tweeter. Since it doesn't need to be airtight or rock solid as its a tweeter it worked out well. This way you can get the imaging you want with hidden location for almost no cost.
Re: Tweeter imaging, dash holes too far away? (Kale)
I dont see why they could not be mounted close to the tunnel where the bottom of the dash and the tunnel come together. Wher yours are but up against the tunnel /dash corner.
They only could be pointed straight forward or rotated towards the door. They would be out of the way of your knees to. I have considered high on the door pillar too
Re: Tweeter imaging, dash holes too far away? (ld85)
I have mine on the A pillars. They are in their pods which have an angle to them. The end result is they are aimed at the opposite side seat top. Great imaging. The brand I used, Bostons, are very small and most people don't even notice them until I point them out, even at the corvette show with the roof down.
Re: Tweeter imaging, dash holes too far away? (Kale)
I have my tweets in the dash right next to the 4's. I don't really have a problem with imaging. Sound really nice up there cuase windshield helps direct sound. Good luck in whatever you decide to do.
Re: Tweeter imaging, dash holes too far away? (ld85)
Was the question: "will dash tweeters be too far away"
1) from the listener, or
2) from the mid-bass in the component set
With components it's best to keep the drivers as close together as possible for accurate phase / time alignment. If your mid-bass is low in the door or sill or kick panel, then yes, tweeters mounted in the dash are too far away. You should try to put them closer- like in the doors.
That being said; the farther the drivers are from your ears, the easier it is to do proper imaging for both passengers. Unfortunately any installation is very close in a vette. The guys above have it right: you cross-fire the tweeters at the opposite person's ear. The person farthest away gets the full on-axis response (but it's travelling twice as far) while the closer person gets it 30degree off-axis where the level is down 3-5db or so. Ideally it all evens out and both people hear the same level in tje left and right ears.
