I already bought a Kenwood 890hd and always planned on changing out the hu. I know a guy who is an installer so I was going to run everything and let him wire the HU. I'm installing two Alpine amps, a sub, door and rear speakers, bass ****, etc.
I was just wondering how difficult or easy these modules make installing the HU. I would rather do it myself since I enjoy the work and can make sure it gets done right. What can I use to tap the dimming wire? It seems like everything else is just matching wire colors. Thanks

If not changing the HU you don't need the GMOS or PAC, you need THIS
In C6 sticky find thread for D2 install, most info is in there. A6 & A7 for SWI wires, Gray/Black at TC/AH button for dimmer. IIRC Green wire at pin D of smaller plug for VSS. Connect HU amp remote to B3 of plug C1. Everything else in is harness.
Pins can be confirmed on schematics, also in sticky.
Hey traderfjp! I like the way your going with the 6x9's in the doors and curious to know what the will sound like and what your stereo system will have when you are done. Also please keep us informed on the final sound results!!About to do the same set up at least in the doors. Thanks!!
Thanks. The system sounds great and I'm enjoying it all. The XM reception sucks but I'm working on it. I would probably go with Focal
6 x 9's and Focal for the rears too. The price difference is not that great. I don't think you would hear much of a difference but they have an excellent reputation and they aren't too expensive unless you go with their higher end component speakers.
The 8" Polk sub driver is a real standout. The bass is tight and loud and melds well with any song thanks to the bass **** which alows me to tailor the bass to each song. I also really like the the Kenwood 890hd HU.
The sub amp runs fairly cool while the 4 channel amps can run hot. My speakers are 2ohm so the amp is getting a work out while the sub is 4ohms. There is some distortion when I put the volume up real loud. It's probably a combination of the amp and speakers. My problem is that I'm comparing my 9k home setup with a 2k car setup.
As an experiemnt I may buy a 10" woofer from Parts Express and cross it over from about 80hz to about 5000k and then cross that over to a Vifa tweeter but only do the install in one door to do an A/B.

Yes. There is a guy who will make the mounting plate for 18.00 on Ebay. He will custom cut it to any size. I was going to make my own but for that price it didn't make sense. They system sounds great but I am thinking of buying a 10" woofer and crossing it over at about 5k to a Vifa tweeter. I would start off with one door to see the effects and then go from there.
