Our new Caddy, and the new radio I'm planning on getting installed in my '09 Vette, has the ability to play from a USB flash drive.
The procedure I'm using is to load the CD on my MacBook using iTunes, then making a playlist. Then I drag-copy the complete playlist to the flash drive. The format I'm using is MP4, and the music quality is outstanding.
This procedure has worked well for most of the CDs I've transferred. But ... I have three or four (recent purchases) that upon dragging, either do nothing, or tells me there are hidden or invisible files. I assume this means it is copy protected. Seems to happen on CDs that have Gracenote (whatever that is).
I understand this procedure is perfectly legal for CDs that the user has paid for, and I have. Anybody have any idea how to get around the problem?

That's what I would do. Media player will auto-rip any CD you feed into the laptop. You can adjust the bit rate to 192kbps (which is about the same quality as 320kbps .mp3) The CDs will all go to the "Music" folder. If you are connected to the interweb, media player will find the track titles, album art, etc.

If you've successfully ripped the music from the CD to iTunes, try dragging the files from their actual storage location instead of from iTunes.
To do that:
Open iTunes, along the menu bar at the very top left of your screen, select the "iTunes" dropdown, select "Preferences", a window will open, select the "Advanced" tab. In the top of that tab, there will be the "iTunes Media Folder Location" that gives you the file path to where the actual files are stored. open, Finder, navigate to that page, you should be able to drag/drop individual files from there.
Please don't be offended if its too dumbed down, I don't know everybody's computer literacy levels. Also note, this is on Version 11.0.4(4), there is an update that I haven't installed yet so I don't know if this has changed (but I highly doubt they have bothered with changing their menus).

I tried to do it using Windows Media Player and it wouldn't copy the files either. Just got a red circle with the slash through it ... the "can't do" indicator.
