Custom C6 install for an audiophile
For me, I've finally decided to start another custom system and feel confident I'll be keeping this car for a long time. The car is a 2012 C6 GS L3, Cyber Grey, A&A Vortech kit, Kooks 1 & 7/8" - 3" headers and Borla stage 2 exhaust.
After the horsepower went in, I'd fallen in love w/ the car all over again and wanted to make it a bit more, special for me. My good friend and installer of choice, Scott Moore @ Stereotomy in Issaquah, Wa will be working on the car.
The gear
Keeping the factory Nav (I just didn't like the current head unit options and will wait for something I really like). I'd considered all the top end units and realized I'd rather go w/ the processor instead.
Rockford Fosgate
- 360.3 signal processor
- P600x4
- P1000X1BD
- Sub P2D4-12
- L6V2
- L3V2
- Dynaliner pt# 11101
- Dynaliner pt# 11102
- Dynamat Xtreme bulk back 36' Sq Ft.
The front stage will use the factory 10" location and we will try to fit the high components in the dash, moving the front stage as far forward as we can. The processor will help us greatly here as we can add delays to time all signals just right.
The car will receive a mix of deadening everywhere to try and minimize the road noise and the very loud exhaust. I believe we can achieve significant gains in "quietness" and expect to still have some of the exhaust come through
The interior is currently stock black leather & will receive some suede accents in blue. The lower door panels will be wrapped in suede, as will the sewn piece that wraps around the console, dash side. I will also do the same color in the seat inserts and have all the stitching on the seats in blue.
The sub enclosure will be custom and built to center the sub b/w the seat, sitting as far back as we can make it, while still clearing the targa top mounts. We will also do an amp display on the backside of the box. This is where Scott's creative side should really come out. We will use a combination of finish materials matching both the factory and suede blue I've Picked out.
The car is starting today and should be gutted this afternoon. Pictures incoming - assuming I can figure out how to post hem on here.

Squeezing a 12" sub in with a stowed targa isn't easy. I made up a drawing a while back of dimensions that should help.
The front edge of the roof line will be 9" behind the rear vertical lip of the ledge behind the seats. At that point it is 9" above the carpet.

A few of mine over the years for some ideas....

MDF on the top of photo is just there to prop the box up while it cures the 1st fiberglass hardening.
There will be a plexiglass cpver bent to match the curves in that location, once the amps and processor are mounted.
The curves in the enclosure match the lines of the targa top.

Sub has a ring on the flat surface, sanded to create lips and oversizes the lip to add more interesting lines.
