I have a 2002 C5 coupe. Several months ago I installed a Kenwood eXcelon X900/5 5-channel amp and new door and cabin speakers, all wired to work with my stock head unit. Everything worked fine.
But now....
Yesterday I removed the stock head unit and replaced it with a Kenwood DNX6900HD Nav unit. This required me to remove the AOEM-Vet1harness that worked with the stock head unit and replace it with a GM harness.
Here is the wiring I did when making this change:
1. Black wire in Kenwood harness connected to black wire in GM harness.
2. Yellow wire in Kenwood harness connected to yellow wire in GM harness.
3. Red wire in Kenwoon harness connected to yellow wire in the C5's footwell fuse box.
4. Blue-with-white-stripe wire in the Kenwood harness connected to the power control terminal in the Kenwood amp.
5. Orange-with-white-stripe wire in the Kenwood harness connected to teh yellow/cream colored wire in the C5's air conditioning harness.
My car started just fine. All the instruments, lights and similar electronics worked fine. AC ran fine. But I cannot power up the head unit. It is possible that the amp isn't sending power to the head unit but I don't know how to test to find out.
Just remember, the amp was receiving power just prior to this head unit change. So...
Help. Tell me where to begin my trouble shooting. I have a multi-meter with which to check certain connections for the presence of electrical power (voltage). So...
Set Meter to dc volts and check black to yellow (key off) and then black to red (key on). Should have somewhere between 11 and 14 volts if not look there
Unless I'm pulling an airbag I NEVER disconnect the battery any more durring installs, too many darn things to 'reprogram' when done. Soooo.... that means I have a good chance at blowing fuses if I'm not careful.
Lately I'll just pull the radio fuse (or any aux power/wiper fuses I may tap) before starting the install, then I can let wires fall wherever they want to and not worry about it.
