man.. Ken, Chris, and i started out early sunday to build 3 sub boxes for the compartment. well.. we finished one "custom italian hand made box" (inside joke). and 1 actual box. i have a q's though. is the 3/4 mdf reallty that important? it was a pain to deal with and took up our valuable air space. also, i was wondering if anyone has pics of the box they made for there compartment. we tried several different ways and where only able to get MABEY .5 of a cubic foot.
on another note- it was good to meet you ken, see you this weekend to finish the boxes. let me know how your box/kicker sounds, and if you want to come by and grab that amp. i found out there is a place on i35 called tweeters, that is sopose to be a good store for car audio, we should stop by there.
Matt,
I was nice meeting you and Chris this past Sunday. I guess we will have to tease you a little bit about the "gorilla" board forever.
I guess there is some comfort in knowing that when I have passed away and my ride is in my grandson's back yard, that the custom subwoofer enclosure will not flex or warp on him. :D
Anyhow, I am looking foreward to this weekend, I bought some more screws. We still need to get polyfill, 2 electrical connectors, new sawblades, silicon caulk and carpet / grill material.
Not sure why you had problems getting a foot cube. You only need a lid on the stock compartment. You don't need the box to be throughout the entire compartment. You may want to apply some ribs inside as well as damping material to kill it more accoustically. The object is to seperate the air from the cabin space. In a sense, its 3/4" of a fiberglass sub box already.
hmm... that was out other idea. we went ahead and just build a box that will slide in and out. it is a darn good fit too. i mean it is really snug inside, and it is just a great design... but it would be better for a 8 inch. mabey we should just go ahead and do it the other way and make the whole compartment a box. chris didnt want to make any changes like that, so we could give him the box that is already made, and we could do ours the other way. 92triple do you have pictures?
ken- i think your finally coming around to the idea that the "gorilla board" was a good idea. lol. give me an estamite on how much $$ i need to bring. also there is a cruise in meet this sunday at bone daddys. it is in the s.west section.
well, i am just rambling. talk to you guys later.
My box is larger. Takes up the entire cargo area. Here's a link to a picture. I have a 12" sub and 3 amps. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=193712
I am going to revise this box if necessary to clear a glass rear window top. I also built it when I was leasing and didn't own the car so I shied away from drastic changes. I will now rebuild using the rear speaker compartments for the mids and tweets and I've been thinking of an IDMAX 12, JL 12w7, or some other large woofer to use in place of the boston, which I'll transfer to the Jeep.
