Default C4 (Bose) - Aftermarket Upgrade

I've read the the C4 sticky above and searched the site.

I want to replace my factory (1984) Bose system since the tape deck and 2 speakers don't work. I don't want anything fancy just a simple fucntional HU that I can plug an Ipod or memory stick in and listen to the radio.

Is what I outlined below the easiest method to achieve this?

1) Replace stock Bose HU with brand X and disregard the factory harness

2) Run new wires to doors (new speakers 5.25 or 6.5) and back (6x9).

3) Get adpater to use for power antenna.

4) Get power and groud directly from battery.

Am I missing anything here? I know there is a fair bit of labor to it but want to make sure I'm on the right track.

Any concern with leaving the factory harness unplugged in the dash?

Thanks!

Sorry to hijack your thread for a bit but I had some questions that might help the both of us get an understanding on what needs to be done.

In my mind, this is how I pictured this upgrade taking place.

1 - disconnect battery

2 - remove existing head unit (bose)

3 - remove exisitng speakers (bose)

4 - install new speakers (aftermarket)

5 - run new wire from the new speakers to the location where the new head unit harness will be.

6 - cut wires from the existing head unit harness needed to power and operate the new head unit (Ie. power, ground, accessory and antenna).

7 - connect the wires cut from the exisiting head unit harness to the new head unit harness.

8 - connect speaker wires to the new head unit harness.

9 - install new head unit into mounting kit

10 - install the new head unit, now in mounting kit, into the location of previous head unit location.

11 - connect battery.

I know that I am leaving out all the removing of interior panels and such for running the wires and being able to access the speakers / head unit but I assumed that all readers would assume that it was already neccesary.

What I am wondering is what, if anything, is missing from that list. I keep hearing so much about bypassing the bose system, getting harness adapters and doing things of that nature but I was thinking that if I am doing everything list above I wouldn't really have to mess with anything bose besides the removal of the speakers / head unit.

That's what I was hoping. I don't like hijacking threads but I figured we were trying to reach a common goal and that I was doing it with good intent. Anyway, hopefully something comes from this. I also created another thread in the C4 Tech/Performance section in hopes of getting a few more responses.

Hopefully someone will come by and save our days so we can spend a Sunday drinking beers and making our beautiful ladies sound the way that they look.
