Re: Hot wire to battery question. (reyderz86)
You don’t have both top and side posts on your battery?
Well, if you want to attach it to the side post you will need to use 5/16” ring terminals. You can get them at any car audio shop.
I'm not sure I understand the question. Step by step, all you do is take a ring terminal as Nomad says and attach it to the end of your power wire. Then you take a battery tap ($10 at any audio store) and replace the tap that is securing the current positive wire on your battery. The new tap will have a double nut, one to tighten on the positive wire to your starter, and a second one to secure the wire to your amp. That's about it. Sorry if I stated the obvious, or if I missed something, but I wasn't quite sure what you are asking. I'll email you a pic a little later when I get home if it will help.
Thats exactly what I needed to know. Right now I have the ring on the power wire in between the stock battery tap and the battery and I figured there was a better way to do it. Thanks guys.
Make sure there is an inline fuse VERY close to the positive connection. In case of an accident and a crushed wire, you want a fuse to blow, not a wire to turn red hot!!!
Yea, the fuse is there. The whole systems in, I just wanted a better way to connect that wire. Now I can change the cennetction while I'm waiting for my new 160 amp alternator to come in the mail.

Re: Hot wire to battery question. (reyderz86)
Since you are getting a 160 amp alt. have you upgraded the electrical system wires yet?
If not, you might want to do that to get full use of that new alt. Also, you might want to get a battery with both top and side mounts, heck, while you’re at it just get an Optima Yellow Top.
By having both top and side mounts on your battery you can use the top mounts to connect all your aftermarket wires and use the side mounts for all your stock wire connections.

Re: Hot wire to battery question. (reyderz86)
Hey Nomad, how much are those yellow tops?
Between $160 to $180 depending on where you buy it. Well worth the cost though. Check out your local Battery Store like "Batteries Plus" or "Batteries Etc.". They all carry them.
You want to replace the screw on the wire that goes into the battery with one that has a second screw mounted on the rear of it. Here's a link with pictures of what I am trying to describe. The bottom has the new battery tap. This way, you have a point to screw into the battery cleanly and without toying with the rest of the system. The stinger one, which is what I am using, cost $10. Monster and Phoenix Gold and other companies make the same thing. http://www.stingerelectronics.com/st..._terminals.asp

:yesnod:
Yep I use those too, mine are Gold plated Fogate but it's the same thing. I got mine for free but $10 sounds like a good price. I also have the Platimun plated Fosgate top mount terminals too, but you will only need the side terminals for your setup.

I agree totally!!! I have seen one particular car that burned down to the ground because it was "hot-wired" with out a fuse. Normally it needs to be with in 18" of the battery but in a Vette, put it as close to the terminal as possible and make sure it is a water tight fuse holder.
That is what I am using. It is basically a double sided battery bolt. I got it for free, my dad had a few kicking around. I imagine you could pick one up for a buck at one of the bigger auto stores. What was posted above would probably be great as well, but the price was right in my case :)
