Is it really neccessary to drill the holes in the bottom of the plastic well? The box was pretty damn secure when it was in there. I just don't see how much more security the blots will give to the plastic well. Wouldn't this cause a more likelyhood of it cracking the well all together? Thanks.
I wondered the same thing when I put mine in. I've got 2 layers of Dynamat in there and that made for a 'very' tight fit. (I had to jump up and down on the sub to squeeze it in there.)
I went ahead and put the bolts in - my fear was that if I were in a head on collision at speed, the fiberglass in the back might flex and that tight fit might let go. That triangular shaped hole would act like a launching ramp throwing the 50 lb sub at my head. ... Be careful when tightening those bolts - it's possible to overtighten and damage the fiberglass.
WHEN I PURCHASED THE STEALTH BOX, I WAS TOLD THAT IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO USE THE BOLTS. AS A MATTER OF FACT, THE AUDIO SHOP WAS AGAINST IT BECAUSE OF THE FIBERGLASS CRACKING. IT ALSO WILL NOT CHANGE THE PERFORMANCE.
MY OPINION IS (AND MY OPINION ONLY) IT WOULD TAKE A LOT OF FORCE TO HAVE THAT BOX COME OUT OF THE WELL. :)
You are not kidding. Man that thing was a bitch in a half to get bolted in. I just went ahead a bolted it in but not too tight. I thought it would be one of those bada bing bada bang and it's in. Boy I was wrong!
how do these boxes sound? Where did you get them and how much if I may ask? What type of stereo systems are you all running,ie..amps,speakers etc. I know I want to put in an Alpine head unit.
Thanks

HI USARMYTTT,
YOU WOULD PROBABLY GET A BETTER RESPONSE, IF NOT MORE ANSWERS TO YOUR QUESTIONS IF YOU POST A NEW THREAD :jester
IT'LL DRAW MORE ATTENTION THEN BEING BURRIED IN THIS ONE :)
USARMYTTT ... I really like my Stealth box. Sound quality is very good. Build quality is very good as well. It hits good and hard - yet remains very clear. Custom multi-sub systems might hit harder and louder, but this box delivers much more than I need, - and complements the Focals nicely. (... and it fits in the car perfectly, right out of the box)
You're not going to win an spl contest with it - but if that's your goal you're looking at the wrong product. (Although I tested my system just for grins and it hit 132 db. It's not the 160 db it takes to win a contest, but it's still much louder than I need or want.) I plan to enter a sound quality contest one of these days. I think the stealth box will hold up well to the competition in this arena. I need to balance the system a little better first though.
I got mine from a forum GP back in May. I believe it was around $450. You can check my sig for the rest of my setup.
If you're looking for a good quality single sub that'll just plug-in-play into the vette, this is a great choice. If you're looking for a more exotic/louder dual sub setup - you'll probably have to build your own enclosure, or have someone do it for you. That's my opinion - others may disagree ... and that's OK.
