Paint Question for Mr Clean...
If I may ask you a couple of questions and I hope that I am not asking for something that you feel uncomfortable with. I just am quite curious is all.
1. How much did it cost for the work? It appears that you have done most of the prep and assembly work yourself. I would imagine that you had a pro shoot the parts.
2. In looking at colors, which I am sure that you did quite extensively, how did they come up with that color? What brand of paint is it? What kind of prep did you do to the car? Did you blast it or what?
3. I am not sure if you can answer this one but if not someone may be able to. I love the chromalusion colors and am wanting to paint my car with a 4 color scheme. I would like it to be sort of like this.
Not sure of the painting process and how the different colors are blended but with these colors.
a) off white
b) light grey
c) grey
d) charcoal black
I think that would look awesome and I do not know if ACME or another manufacturer makes that yet.
I appreciate you taking the time to answer if you can. I do have to say that in all of the years I have been working with cars and have painted a few that yours is a stunning color. I did paint my wifes old 74 super beetle a color similar to yours but it was more a pinkish color. Tropical Peach was the color.
Thanks,
1. The project is costing me approximately $3500. This is truly a "friend" price as I am buddies with those doing most of the work and just bs'in with the painter one night he said that a paint job like this should cost me at least $6,000.
2. I looked at colors for several months. I always wanted orange but just could not decide on what "shade" I wanted. I hate to admit this but the way that I came up with the color I chose was while I was flipping through the channels one night and came across "Fast and the Furious". It was at the end where the Supra is flying all over the place. I saw it and instantly said "that is my color. That is what I want." After further investigation, the color turned out to be a 2002 Lamborghini factory color. I called my painter and he called down to he paint shop. Sure enough, they had a paint code for it and all was done.
The paint is PPG and we didn't "blast" the car. It was color sanded to "scuff" it up really well. Then the PPG was applied over that. We had to expend a little more effort when prepping the fascias as they had received prior aftermarket paint with very poor craftsmanship. And in all honesty, I did not do any of the prep work. I have helped in the dissassembly/reassembly but really have not done much when it comes to the actual prepping/painting.
3. Chromalusion paint is not a "blend" of paints. It is a single stage paint of (I believe) finely crushed pearls that is shot over a specific colored base. Not sure if they have one that morphs between what you are looking for though. I haven't seen that one yet.
Hope this answers all of your questions.
