I'm upgrading the JL VR650cs on Friday to MB Quarts QSD216. They installted the wrong speakers by accident and offer to replace them with the XR's that I originally ordered or I could upgrade with the Quarts for $650. Well enough said about that!!
Alpine 7892
JL 500/5 power amp
JL VR600cx co-axial (rear)
MBQ QSD216 (front)
JL Stealth Sub woofer
I was pretty happy with the system before but looking fwd to the MBQ's. They should take it to another demension!!
I Really like your set-up. If you don't mind could you tell me roughly what it cost you. I would like to do something similiar and I am trying to develop a budget.
Thanks.

I bought the Stealth from Conquer (good timing) and saved $150. The audio shop worked with me on the prices to be a bit more competive with some of the online prices. I got a huge break on the MBQ's. All and all with install I paid about $2700. Some places want close to $1500 for the Q's alone. I got luck because I originally ordered JL XR650 but they install VR650 by accident. They knock a couple of hundreds off the Q's and applied what I paid for the JL and the Q's ended up being $650. Hope this is helpful. I went with the 7892 head, there was no sence in paying for the extra power out of the 7893 when the juice is coming from the amp.
lotzahp....thanks for the tip, I'll have them do that tomorrow
Got the Q's installed today and all I have to say is WOW!. The good thing is that the tweets are not too over baring (previously warned about this), just right. They wired the tweets flat on the cross overs and balanced everything off nicely not to talk about the system getting ball breaking at volume before even coming close to distorting. The Q's are sweet as hell! Now as far as the price goes.........if you want them you might want to consider onlinecarstereo.com for them (sale for upper 500 something). The local audio shops want any where from $13-1500 for them (paid an additional $620.00 for them). Unless you have deep pockets, that's hard to swallow. I got a serious break in price from an error during the original install but they made good on it so that is how I ended up with them. For those of you in the S Jersey area, Surban Audio is a great shop to do business with!! I judge a business on how they handle problems and these guys are top notch! I had the chance to hear the JL VR in the car and they are so so (sound) the XR are quite a bit better. I liked the Boston Pro's even better than the XR's. I would have went with the Bostons over the XR's, the sound is much cleaner. Thanks, broke but happy! All said and done my system cost me a bit over $2700 installed. The shop worked with me on prices, full retail would of been $4k.
Maybe late, but did you ever audition Diamond Audio speakers. When I heard the name Diamond I said "What is that?" But when I heard them I could not beleive. So smooth and excellent imaging. I spec out Quart Q's, Boston Pro's and for the money you pay for those, the middle of line M661 ranks right up there for $350/ pair. They do have the top of the line HEX series, but those go for $550.
