Convertible: Where did you install your aftermarket amp?
I have a C6 convertible and have been trying to figure out where to install an aftermarket amp.
I thought about reinforcing the partition where the rear speakers are mounted and mounting it there, between the speakers. That might allow me to mount some bigger speakers there too.
Have any of you come up with a creative location in your 'vert?
- I don't want to use up any trunk space.
- I have power seats, so there's no room under either seat.
- I don't think there's enough room in the footwell even after removing the Bose amp.

I haven't even gotten that far.
Right now I'm just trying to figure out where I can put an amp, then I can figure what size amp I can get and then I'll pick speakers based on amp power and size constraints.
I may just keep it simple with four channels, front components (6" or 8" drivers if I can fit them in the doors), tweeters somewhere on/in the dash, and 6" or 8" coax in a particle board panel behind the seats for rear fill.
A sub would probably be less than optimal in the trunk, especially with the top down, so I don't think I'll bother messing with one right now.
I used to have a Jeep YJ with just 5 1/4 component Sony's in the front dash and 6x9 Kenwoods in a sealed wooden "trunk" behind the rear seat and it sounded pretty good actually. I got a lot of compliments from that system.

look for a digital amp that has a sound you like. some of them are downright tiny. the JL XD and HD amps are popular, slim and a very small footprint. once you have the size you can start looking for locations

I'm sure I could, but I'm concerned about the top laying right on it and not allowing it any air to cool.
Thanks. I'll look into that. I saw some other recommendations for "micro amps" in my searching.
Is there any drawback to these?

On a C5 vette there is a lot of room on the tapering vertical face right behind the seats. If either driver or passenger are on the shorter side, there is lots of room for amps there. I am just shy of 6 ft tall and I have a 3 inch gap between seat back and that face. Not sure on the C6 though if there is that much room. Ditto on the tiny amps. They are impressive for their size.
