I swapped back in forth in my car. and heard no diff with all the audio settings flat..
Maybe it is like i said, Only higher priced Alpine like INE-W957HD and have the better gut's ????????????? I did the Alpine W960HDMI vs 5700 pioneer and the alpine 960 is their lower unit double din..
Starting to think it may be wishful thinking on alpine, or at least with my model..
tune both with time alignment, eq, gains etc
without a proper setup it's not really what either can do
even still i heard an amazing difference in tone. not distortion or any of that but the way the sound was reproduced with alpine. i could hear an artist breathe. all the little details were there. certain tracks that would get shrilly on pioneer did not on alpine. the midbass had a different feel to it.
Their all nice but dont jump on one until you search for best price.. Example is i bought a new Alpine W960HDMI with nav for 500.00... My Sterio place had no issue on letting me have it for this price...
Also do you need cd/dvd drive as i think one of tho's you listed doe's not have it.. correct me if im wrong
paying top dollar for labor if it's top tier labor is fine
buying items, always look for the cheapest price. there is no service in handing you a box

This is where I am at. I had right next to the flagship Pioneer and I could never get it to sound right. As soon as I swapped in the Alpine, my system sounded 100% different. It was indeed night and day. A $500 Alpine head unit completely demolished the Pioneer and it wasn't even close. I could even tell before I turned up the volume with all settings at factory, there was an instant soundfield expansion and airyness to the sound, silky smooth, too.

I never experienced that... But you say right away with factory settings..mmmmmmmmmmmmm... Seems it could only happen after dialing it in.....Maybe a bad pioneer unit..as preout's iffy at times but not alway's..
Who said they have the W960HDMI with an iPhone 6s? Can you control and play pandora or Spotify or Apple Music?
Who is the navigation provider?
Thanks
That was probably me. I have a 6s plus and yes on Apple Music and Pandora by Bluetooth or with the Alpine Accessory lightning cable that plugs into USB. When you do that you also get album artwork.

i still wonder if hearing is somewhat genetic. it seems like people either get this or they don't. enough people have said they can't hear differences in things that are glaringly obvious to me that i have to wonder. we are all born with different levels of natural abilities. doesn't really seem unusual that hearing could be one of them.

Oh I don't doubt that a bit and i think to a certain extent it can be learned, also. Put the two together and you have an audiophile. My weakness is hearing loss. I have lost some of the mids and highs and have some tinnitis so mids can be really shrill and harsh to me and I cannot handle anything too bright in that area. Highs I usually have to give some extra boost to sound balanced to me. That being said I can still identify good or bad sound quality very efficiently. I just don't want people to think a person is a snob because one can dissect sound in this manner. So even with some hearing loss, I could hear it instantly. I would really like to try out a top end Kenwood to see if it is close to the Alpine.

nav is in house alpine. links to major satellites. quite reliable, drawback is you need SD card updates every so many years if you want all the latest roads included

So what has the past cost been (if you know) I was messing with the kenwood 9703s at Best Buy. Of course it was powered but no connection of audio. The volume after 15 sucks, as mentioned. That is making it a deal breaker.
Any good unit with a ****?
On another note I have my faster processor for my android radio. I will pull the radio tonight or tomorrow for the upgrade and test out a couple things as well

for updates? from what i gather $30
only one decent deck with a ****. sony xav ax100. it's kind of quirky in menus. sounds better than pioneer. not quite as good as alpine but it's not bad. probably on a similar level to a 9904s
the alpine 960 at least has a largish real button for volume, one for nav and one for phone making it very touch friendly. no tiny buttons or 10 menus to go through to get somewhere
I have not seen the alpine in person yet. I saw the Sony xa100. Looks pretty decent (again no audio option to listen)
I did not get a chance to play with menus on the Sony.
I will say I did not care too much for the menu layout and feel of the Kenwood
i didn't either. too many steps on the kenwood to do things. alpine seems odd to some at first but once you get it, it's really quick. the magnifying glass is how you get to audio folders. not the typical horizontal lines. there is also a main menu and quick menu which is a bit odd but you rarely go to the quick menu so in a way it's nice to have it out of the way
Does the Alpine W960HDMI have a capacitive touch screen? I hate the resistive touch on the Lower Kenwoods and lower Pioneers. Anyone test out the Clarion N807 or N706? Is that a capacitive touch screen?

not even on the same planet as the screen you have to really push to make do anything on low pioneer/kenwood. it doesn't say it's cap but it is a light touch screen and reactive.
if you have a local alpine dealer i'd go play with one and see if it fits your needs
I have both an Alpine INE-W967HD and a NEX8200. I too also used Alpine years ago (7998 was one of my favs, along with the Pioneer P9 components and a Sony CDX-C910). I was looking for a sweeter sound that what NEX had to offer. I've swapped them a few times and each time I cant get the low end bass I want with the Alpine. The bass engine settings are over the top too much. It's either to little or way too much. I've also noticed that the EQ does not control the sub outs, only the front/rear outputs. With the NEX8200 I have way more control on the subs while using a Pac RC1 from the drivers seat.
I'm running JL HD amps (750/1 into 2 JL 10W6V3's and 600/4 to Rainbow CS 275.27 Power Components and JL C5 Components), I would have loved to run the Slash series but the I like compact HD's for this application.
