So I am starting to sway/lean towards the alpine, but only if I can find a really good deal.

I have the cash to buy the Sony right now, but the Alpine, seems to have a bit more 'internal' . If I decided to ditch the MiniDSP and just use the crossovers on the amps and deck, I could go get the Alpine with the cash form the sale of the MinDSP. I just don't have the time or even the energy to spend tuning the DSP to get it right, but I have it so I might just use it.. I probably need the better part of a weekend to get it close. but end of the day, if you feed it crap you get crap.

I use to be big in Car audio in the 90's then, now I just wanted a decent system in my vette.. The OEM system in my Daily Driver sounds better.

I truly think if I removed the DSP, added a good headunit, I am good to go and will be happy.

I just wish the w960 was at the better price at big box stores like best Buy (only reason is I have a decent amount of rewards cash to use there)

the non hdmi version is 488 online. the best i can get you on an hdmi version is $550 + shipping from stereo king in clackamas oregon. buying from them would give you a warranty which you may not get with joe online store.

alpine is not a heavily discounted brand with their decks. it's kind of a "we know they are good, if you want it, pay for it" attitude. they also are not a heavy margin item. my guesstimate is cost is 400-450

Thanks guys. Went back to local place with questions

He does not stock the Sony but can get it
I mentioned the W960HDMI but he does not have one in stock

ILX-207 I could get about $30 off

DDX6903s was $479
DMX7704s was $485ish

He mainly carries Kenwood and some Alpine. My original plan was to get a radio with HDTuner. That Alpine on DIY is a nice price. I need to find more $ though

The frustration is no place has units hooked up for sound. Some you can play with the menu

I walked in and picked up my HDMI version for 500.00 And place is Autori alpine dealer. Sale guy said no problem selling at that price..
It was Installation's Unlimited in North Syracuse N.Y.... They are marked high if you look at their sight but if you show them other deal's elsewhere they will do whatever to get your business...

I think if I went into the shop with cash I might have a better outcome.. as much as I like having a rear view camera I have been tempted to reinstall my Nak. I also have a directed HDTuner add on I can use..

I need to look at the Aux in on some of these units

oh god. those old nak decks were really really good

however. you give up time alignment which is magic for dealing with in car reflections. after getting time alignment right it's hard to imagine going back

Lol. Yeah major difference.. I do have the MiniDSP C6x8 which I assume does time
Alignment, I also realize the output of the DSP is lower than the decks I am looking at..

Speaking of any good YouTube video for the Alpine on the time alignment?

i really should make one. each time i set one i have to read up as i forget the exact details. unlike your home receiver or even pioneer car audio alpine uses the sub as a zero point and everything else is delayed off there

alpine also uses inches/cm and ms as interchangeable. if you have mic measurements or even crude tape measurements you can use those to transfer into inches/cm

if you want one, google stereo king clackamas oregon, ask for kevin churchill. mention being one of kyle's friends and that price

they are a brick and mortar shop and don't do cards over the phone and shipping but he mentioned working with people in other states from time to time

That is a great price on the 9904s. For me, I am still wanting a deck with a toslink output to connect to a Helix dsp.2 I don't see an Clarions or Alpines under $700 right now that would accommodate.

Thanks for the info.. Still a bit short of my car fund at the moment.. Once I get there, I might just call.

I have determined I am more than likely going to buy a kenwood. It has all the features I truly want, it will sound better than the android it will replace .

I do need to determine the differences between the 9904s and 9704s..

I am leaning to the DMX7704, which is the same as the 9704s but no CD.. So what am I gaining on the 9904s?

Reason I ask is I have some rewards $$ through Best Buy and a 10% coupon, so I think I can get the DDMX7704s for less than $400. But still might go the 9904s route but unclear iont he gains of the 9904s ( I know the screen is different ( resistive vs Capacitive)

Look at the manual for the Kenwood decks. That is the best place to compare the features. My fall back position is the 7704s. I once again bid on an Alpine ILX-207. I like the mechless designs. I don't need navigation, that is what google maps on android phones are for. Maybe you only get 5v pre-outs, (carefully selected capacitor, gold plated preout) when moving up to the 9904s from the 9704s. Moving from 9704s to 7704s, you lose the DVD slot, HD radio, and screen.
