I am looking to replace the factory nav in my ZR1 with an aftermarket head unit. I don't feel like wading through pages and pages of information so I thought I'd start a thread that could maybe make it easier for someone in my scenario...and if this thread already exists, please pass that along...thanks!
Anyway, I'm looking for something $300 or less for a head unit and I don't really care much about features as I'm sure any modern unit will do what I want it to do. Most importantly I want it to look clean and be easy to use.
I saw a joying unit that looked fantastic and I saw they make direct fit options which would be ideal but I don't see one that fits the c6. Does anyone know if such a unit exists so I don't have to buy an install kit and mess with all that stuff?
I assume I'd need a harness and maybe an antenna adapter, otherwise is there anything else I'd need? Thanks a bunch! I'm sure folks will get pissed seeing this thread but after an hour or so of searching my head is already spinning. Thanks!
At under $300, you are going to end up with a very basic head unit. What features do you need? Do you need navigation? There aren’t too many good head units out there with NAV for under $300.
thanks guys. I'm not too picky on head units and I don't need nav. Maybe the better question is, what do I need beyond a head unit for install and are there any plug and play options, like the joyring, that will fit the C6 directly? Thanks!

Well you are going to need the dash kit, antenna adapter and wiring harness (like the RP4-GM11) to connect to the stock amp/speakers as well as keep your steering wheel controls.

Ok, thanks. Is there a certain dash kit that everyone is using? I really liked the idea of a direct fit solution that bolted into factory holes vs the install kit. I just want a super clean install that looks factory.

Check out Double D Mods. They have complete packages that will come with everything you need to do the install.
Just to give you an idea of what an aftermarket unit looks like installed, here is a picture of my Pioneer. If you are changing the head unit you may also want to consider a back up camera. This particular unit is a little pricier than what you are budgeting.
think of resale. you can get an alpine 960 for $496 shipped from a seller on newegg
Alpine INE-W960 Navigation receiver
type that into the newegg search box. the nav is simple you just place the antenna on top of the deck pointing up when installing
with this you preserve the nav feature and it's really easy to use. you have a nice sounding deck and the ability to install usb thumb drives with thousands of songs
that's quite a lot for $196 over a lower end $299 deck. this is the non hdmi version of the deck which won't matter to you. it's just on closeout pricing because of being updated with the hdmi model.
this deck has a nice responsive touch screen and is of high quality. yet another perk is you can upload a zr1 banner or other such screen saver. the hands free calling is also EXTREMELY clean
