offshoot of css? the xbl2 motor is their doing

that's one of the better chinese voicecoils

i still think it's more time and money than it's worth doing DIY on anything except subs. now you have to find a tweeter with a similar tonal balance

dynaudio and morel have a sound no one else has been able to recreate in car audio

Installed!
I did not have to have to cut the 6.5" FAST rings. I needed the full width.
The foam couples the driver to the door grille.
I might not run subwoofers anymore.
They have sooo much bass and midbass.
FWIW, I am running Alpine Type X tweeters.
Active Crossovers of 60hz to 3.15khz for mids, 3.15k and up for tweeters.

Time for the break-in period.
I will post frequency response curves using REW at a later date.

why?

like i guess i kind of get this. 15 years ago i thought response curves and perfect lines made great speakers

then one day i heard a pair of speakers that sounded terrible and measured great. i also have heard speakers that measure terrible and sound pretty good {martin logan} measurements only show you peaks and dips in decibel level. they do not show you how sound resonates in your ear. i can take a stick and smack a plastic bottle. metal bottle or even wood bottle and make a similar graph on a response curve. what my ear hears however....all different sounds. i still glance at response curves to make sure there are no wild swings or tweeters that fall apart at 16k but i do take them with a grain of salt

i have a pair of the type x tweeters here. it's a cheap typhany ring radiator. it's not terrible. i kept them for a future work truck install. it's okay. no where near as good as the mt230 in the hybrid set however. it's maybe on the same level as a JL c3. you HAVE to cross them at 3200-3500hz as they break up badly under 3k and power handling goes down

i just can't for the life of me understand why you would choose these over a hybrid 602 ? $500 out of pocket, sell the crossovers for 60. that's $440 for made isreal morel drivers. you're in this set $340 and the tweeter isn't as good. no idea on the woofer, haven't heard it but i have yet to hear a chinese driver that resonates the same, that creates the same sound. with all the work you're doing the elate set or dynaudio esotar seemed like a given. do you visit the diyforum? i feel their influence here. some of the amatuer speaker builders just can't help themselves with trying to make the perfect speaker.....and they never do which is why it's an ongoing thing for many as the decades roll on.

all said. i think you really shortchanged yourself

I will say this, if you prep your doors correctly you can produce incredible mid bass response. I sound deadened the doors completely on the inside, plugged off the open spaces to make a better enclosure and my 6.5"s hammer like there is a kick drum or a tom right next to my leg. Prosecutor, I hope your experimentation works out for you and let us know how it sounds when you are done. I think the tweeters the way they are mounted look pretty cool, also.

Wow that baby gets down there and you have a nice dip at the best spot, in that aggravating 120 hz neighborhood that tends to be dominant in an auto environment.

Update: I overpowered my Alpine tweeters. I upgraded. I ordered a pair of Audiofrog GS10 tweeters. I can't wait to hear them. They should fit the German pods. See that dip above at 2khz for the mids. Well, I hope to solve that with these tweeters.

why? you spent the same on those as you nearly could have on a morel mt230 or scan speak d3004 pair @ 250 and 320pr

if you have a refined ear i can't see you being happy with the chinese tweeters

it's not even the response curve. it's how they resonate sound. it's a different

the mt230 for one can handle 150w @ a 2200hz cross and really doesn't create a half bad sound. no annoying sounds at random frequencies
