Default Ground Question

Wondering if a ground is a ground, or does the location matter?

My issue is this. The engine harness has been modified I want to relocate stuff for easier wiring/access (relays where AC blower was at firewall for example). The problem is, the grounds wont let me do that without making them longer. So I am wondering if I can ground some of the things that used to ground to the engine block (drivers side) to the frame (passangers side) and not have any problems. I know I would need to get a good clean metal to metal contact at that location. Would/should I run a ground strap from that part of the frame to somewhere on the motor?

If I ground the stuff to the frame, will I have any issues with anything? Stereo problems, etc? (Aftermarket stereo setup)

Thanks all!
Matt

Default Re: Ground Question (VetteRacer282)

Yes, you can ground straight to the frame like you described and yes, you will have to run a ground from there back to the engine block. Everything on your stock electrical system is grounded on the back of the engine block so by relocating any of those grounds you will need to run ground back to the block again. So you will have a ground on the frame and the block, understand?

Since you are doing all this electrical work I suggest you upgrade the whole thing. Your alt to battery, battery to block and block to chassis wires. (Don't forget to fuse between alt and batt).
