Default Replacing Bose in 86 C4

86 Convertible with Bose. I'm replacing the Bose head unit and speakers with an aftermarket unit and speakers.

Question: Can I use the existing speaker wires? I know the 86 Bose has the amplifiers in each unit, so there will be two wires going to each speaker that won't be used. But - are the other two wires that go to each speaker continuous? or do they go through a relay or something?

Trying to determine if I need to fish new speaker wires from the dash to the new speakers.

I think according to this old post I can use the existing wires

Thanks in advance

I replaced the entire Bose system in my 86 coupe with Pioneer HU and Polk speakers and re-wired everything and found that the music was clean and had extended high's compared to the BOSE system but I had almost zero bass response! When I added a sub, everything sounded better. You WILL need a sub after the upgrade!

Thanks for the info bigsteff -
Update: I'm trying to use the existing wiring in my 86 and have some questions. I have replaced the Bose head unit with a JVC KD-x255BT. I have wired the JVC to the Bose connector in the dash using the wiring diagram from the new head unit, matching to same color wires on the Bose connector.

Does anyone know details of the 86 Bose wiring going to the door amp and speaker?

At the door Bose amp, I have 4 wires:
Red 12V
Black - Ground
Grey - speaker audio?
Green - speaker audio

I disconnected the Bose-Amps in the doors, and can run the new non-Bose speaker by connecting either Grey/Black to the speaker, or Green/Black to the speaker. I have also disconnected the rear Bose amps/Speakers and not using them for now.

Just trying to understand why there are two audio wires going to that door Bose-amp, and which one to use to connect to my non-bose speaker?

Just to be clear, yes, I'm audio-system challenged.

I think I figured it out. I was trying to use chassis ground (black wire) for speaker ground. Wiring diagram here helped.
