I have entered the C5 family with an "01" with 15K miles.
Everything is great on the car except the casette radio which
he added after removing his aftermarket system.
My question is: Can I use a non-bose delco head unit with a
CD until I have the funds to upgrade.
Yes. It is not real easy but it can be done. The rear speakers are 4ohm so they can be wired to most all aftermarket decks. The door speakers are a little more tricky. The 8" woofer in the door has it's own bose amplifer. You can buy an adapter at most stereo shops that will adapt a regular speaker output from the aftermarket deck to the bose amplifier. I had it done in my car, and It sounded about the same afterwards. I did it for the same reasons as you. If you need me to find out the brand or make of the adapter, im or e-mail me.
Thanks for your help. I have a local guy trying to sell me a
delco Cd head unit from a 2000 Chevy S-10 which he says
will work. I don't believe this but I would like to hear some
comments.
It seems the bose head unit has one more plug than the delco.
I don't know how to work around that. I sent an imail to 99HT
to get his input. Thanks for the reply.
Forget about it. Just got a response from 99HT and I quote
" The only delco radio that will work in a C5 is a C5 bose/delco."
He said that the guts of the two are completly different.
Oh well, back to the drawing board.
I just replaced the head unit in my 2002 Zo6. The adapter that I used was made by Soundgate. I unit basically plugs into the Delco harness and you can wire any aftermarket head to it. I purchased mine of the Net, Soundgate said any Circuit City can get them, the part number you are looking for is GMCRV1. I paid $95.00 shipped, I think Circuit City quoted me 109.95. Hope this helps.
