My new stereo system is almost complete, all I have left is to find a sub. I have a few options with the amp I am running. It is a 5 channel amp with one channel for a sub. The sub channel puts out 130W at 4ohms or 150W at 2ohms. I did the calculations on the stealth type box I am going to build and it is about 2 cubic feet. This is too much for some 10" woofers and just right for most 12". If I am not mistaken I can get either one sub with dual 4ohm voice coils and wire them in parallel for 2 ohms or I can get two real efficient 10" and squeeze them in the box. I am not sure if it is worth it to have two 10's with only 75W going to each of them when I can have one 10 or one 12 with 150W going to it. I think my power and box size fit the recommendations for both the 10" and the 12" Kicker Comp DVC's. I am not set on Kicker, but I have had great luck with them so far. I mainly listen to Rock so I am not exactly looking for the real low bass.
As always I appreciate any input. Thank you
You have more space and less power than is ideal. Go to http://www.mobileaudio.com in section 5 to look at wiring in parallel and series and section 4 for building sub enclosures. Most sealed boxes sound tight though they are inefficient. I have a 12" sub with 600w of power at 2 ohms in a 1 cubic foot sealed box. Sounds great. What subs were you looking at? What is your budget? What amp are you using brand and model #?
Trust me, if you build a stealth box, it would not come out 2 cu ft. If you are using 3/4 MDF, the max volume you can get is around 1.1 cu ft.
One of my friend got Diamond Audio M3 which does not require alots of Wattage and sound really tight and has really good SQ.

The amp I am using is a Orion Cobalt 500.5. The guy at Orion told me the fifth channel for the sub is designed for a dvc Cobalt Subwoofer wired to two ohms. Right now I have a Kicker Comp 10 that is about six years old hooked up to it. Since I already have something I have plenty of time to shop for a new one. I am leaning towards Kicker or Fosgate, they are the only brands I really know, I have been out of the car stereo loop for several years. I think the space and power fit the specs for both Comp 10's and 12's, and also the Punch 12.
You also may want to look at an IDQ, JL w3.2, JL W6.2 and Boston Pro subs. That amp delivers 300wx2 at 2 ohm. There is no wiring diagram or manual I've been able to find. It may allow you to bridge those channels to one channel. You also need to see if you can run the sub at 2 ohm and the speakers at 4 ohm at the same time. Based on that, the amp should be plenty for most subs you would fit in a vette. I'm guessing that the enclosure space will end up around the 1 cubic foot which would work well with a 10-12" single sealed sub. Here's some sites with the subs I mentioned. http://www.imagedynamicsusa.com/webs...ducts/idq.htmlhttp://www.jlaudio.com/subwoofers/index.htmlhttp://www.bostonacoustics.com/ProductsPage.asp

Re: Subwoofer advice needed. (92TripleBlack)
With 300 watts and 1 cu. ft. of airspace in a well-sealed enclosure you should be able to run a single IDQ12 and be just fine. The Boston Pro is another option. The Fosgate HX2's would be great but they need more power than you have so they are not an option. Don’t bother with Kicker. With a single-sub setup use a 12".
I think it is actually 300W x 1 PEAK at 2 ohm. It is rated differently on almost all websites. I have been trying to talk to someone at Orion, but I can't reach anyone.
Thanks for the advice.
It is not only the amp, it may be the person selling the amp. Orion claims 150W for the sub channel at 2 ohm, but I have seen it for sale at some places claiming 300W at 2ohm. I am assuming that 300 is the peak.
i have 1025 watts going to one L7 solobaric @ 12V, and my optima is pushing 14V, thats a LOT of watts, and it hits hard, and precise. I don't see how you can runa 12 with that little wattage.

An efficient 12 will sound decent with little power. The IDQ tends to run well on low power... It's not an "excursion sub." The cone obviously wont push as much air low power, but it should sound alright.

Yes, I am pushing a Diamond M3 10" with Dual 2 ohm wired in series with an ECLIPSE 32440 four channel amp. The amp is rated at 85 Watts x 4. I have the back half of the amp briged and it putting out about 250W at 4 ohms. The front half of the amp is pusshing the DA M661 in the front. The rears are powered by the radio (not much power needed here). The enclosure is about 1.1-1.2 Cu. Ft. The sound is very smooth and accurate. Maybe you can do the same with your amp. Bridge the back half to run you sub and the front have to run you mids and tweets. I agree with MIKE76002. I don't think you be able to bet more than 1.3 Cu. Ft. out of the compartment with 3/4" MDF. Also, 150 Watts to the sub isn't much. You'll end up wanting more power. I am wanting more than 250W. Good Luck.
