Stereo Ideas
I have a 1998 C5 coupe w/Bose,Is it possible to use HU and put in new speakers amps and a sub? I feel the head unit is ok. Components looking into...jl xr6.5 components in front, jl stealthbox for sub and amping with a jl 300/4. Will put 2 channels into front and bridge the other 2 to the sub...Ideas/thoughts?????

Sounds like a pretty good set up. Dont pay more than $270 or so for those XR 650's.
And get an Alpine HU :)

You would be surprised at the difference an Alpine will make. However, you can do what you have in mind now and save up for the Alpine if money is an issue. everything else sounds fine. :cheers:

the HU is really the weak link in the set up. It is the same HU that GM put in the S-10 :eek: . Anyway, replace the HU and do it right, if time & $$ prevail.
I defiitely agree. Like they say,"Start with crap, end with crap." As for the JL XR's, I gave them a demo and wasn't really impressed. The highs weren't smooth and ther mids lacked realism. Check out Diamond Audio M661. You can find a set on the net for about $250

I personally would disagree with the above (nothing personal, hear my reason). I wanted to upgrade my stereo, but had a limited budget and could only do one part at a time. I was thinking aobut the 7898 alpine (think # is correct, it flips out to about 1.5 din size) but then after thinking, i would have slightly better sound quality, but same speakers, where if i put the sub in, i can still listen to the music, but enjoy the rumble of a 12" subwoofer until i can afford to upgrade the HU. Just my .02 opinion. PS the entire music sounded much better and fuller with the sub addition alone.
