Default Headliner removal C6

Has anyone EVER removed the headliner on a C6? I haven't, but I need to and have no advice or walk through to follow. Looking for a hand out. Bueller...Bueller.....Bueller.

It is glued down very effectively on the coupe's hard top. I had to tear mine off and then used dental floss to get off whatever was left. I purchased a new one for ~$100 and my upholsterer used it as a template to make an alcantara one for me.

Here is a pic of it just laying in place. It is not yet glued down.

Would a heat gun work to melt the glue you think?

It may but the headliner is down fairly good and the material is not very sturdy and it will absorb a good bit of the heat.

I think you are going to be tugging at it anyway so I would try cutting it from underneath with floss or fishing line (or the like) and just be prepared to purchase another one.

Booo...I think I may just have to over power the wind noise with MORE POWA!

You'll find that a LOT more of your road noise at speed in these cars will come from the tires than the roof. I would focus my efforts on the wheel wells and tub.

I agree...the road noise is quite significant with PS2s on there.

The road noise without the headliner is not insignificant. Swapping between my see through top versus the solid top is always surprising to me on the noise difference.

If I can't re-install the factory headliner, then there's no point in removing it. Which irks me...because there is a decent amount of wind noise measured with my dB meter. Given, a 1000W worth of amplified sound will easily over power that wind noise.

Grady, how much insulation or what type of insulation is under there?

Pb82;

Here is a pic of my headliner after I tore it while removing it. I knew I was replacing it anyway so I was not overly gentle with pulling it off. I was more concerned about the actual roof being damaged while I was pulling the liner. That adhesive is pretty tacky.

The overall thickness of the headliner is maybe 1/4"

So no insulation? Liner is just glued to the roof panel itself?

The nylon type material you see/feel is glue to that little amount of foam you see in my pic. That foam has some type of adhesive on it which is covered in something like butcher paper when purchasing the headliner new.

You simply peel the butcher paper and stick the headliner down. The nylon material plus the foam is maybe 1/4" thick. I don't know how much that piece is to insulate versus just being decorative.
