Default Upgrading 2007 Speakers

What speakers would you recommend for a 2007 Corvette with Stock Nav Radio? I do not wish to change the radio and am hoping to get better sound with a speaker changeout. Car is a base model coupe.

Thanks in advance,

SUP

IMO...

Not worth it unless you're doing a full install. No amount of good speakers can make the factory head unit or amplifiers good enough to enjoy. Bose is garbage, and non-Bose is worse than that.

That's not entirely true. The factory head unit puts out a clean, flat signal. Properly tapping into it is the key. Upgrading the speakers and leaving the Bose amp would be a bad move. Upgrading the speakers and adding an aftermarket amp(s) is the way to go. Getting signal from head unit to amp requires a harness.
THIS ONE THIS ONE
will do the trick.
I went this route with my factory nav and it sounds light years ahead of what came with the car. I also added a 12" sub in the rear. Makes all the difference in the world.

That all depends on your definition of "clean, flat signal." That in no way correlates to clean, powerful sound. I totally concur about using an aftermarket amp. But when you get that far, you may as well keep going to a full system. Running any amp without a sub will leave even most average ears wanting more. OP is talking about ONLY adding speakers. He will hate his car if he goes this way...unless he doesn't like music. Then he has the cheapest option available...leave it stock and keep it turned off.

Right. That's why I said doing that would be a bad move.

The harness is pretty inexpensive. What amp do you have? My sound system does not have to be great but needs to be better than what it is. No Bose system.

Ok, learning a bit more as I go. The sub would be located in the back and possibly block where the targa top is secured. If so, not sure I want to do this.

I am wanting a good sound. Not unlimited budget. $700 / $800 ? Will this get what I am after? If not, I will get piece by piece until I get it. Probably need to look at a few postings and see what parts make up a good sound system. All I know for sure, is it does not sound as good as it should for a Corvette.

I've got an entire system I can sell you. I'm trading my car in and going back to stock. It's still in the car but I can have it removed quickly.
Pioneer 4200nex
Hertz Mille Pro 6.5" component front speakers
Audison Prima APX5. 5.25"rear speakers
Hertz HDP4 1000w amp for the fronts and sub
Hertz HCP2 400W amp for the rears
Both amps are very compact and can both fit behind your passenger seat.
Vettenuts corner sub box with an Image Dynamics IDQ 10" subwoofer. It fits in the driver's side cubby hole and won't interfere with your top.
These components were over 2500 new and they've been in my car for about 8 months. These are all higher end components and sound amazing. I'd sell it all for $1200 shipped

Thanks in advance,

From what I just found out with my recent install, new speakers will not give you very much if any improvement in sound quality without a new amp. The Bose amp does not have any reserve power to make the new speakers sing.

Holy **** dude...really? OP you may NEVER find another deal like this one. Very nice gear here....just a thought. May not want to pass this up. Just the amps in this setup are about $800 to buy new.

UmcanesZ06- Would you consider selling the sub box separate?

This is tough man. You really can't do much for $800. Because others (including myself) have mentioned the factory stuff isn't very user friendly for integrating with aftermarket stuff. Sure you CAN...but most that do are disappointed as there is usually some kind of annoyance somewhere. A hum here, a whine there, etc. For starters, sound deadening goes a LONG way in reducing competing sounds (road noise, exhaust drone, etc) and can make even factory stuff sound more powerful. And you can usually deaden for around $3-400 in materials when you put in the elbow grease. If all I had was $800, I would deaden the car and buy a NICE head unit. Then when I had some more funds, I would start piecing the rest together. Might take a while, but it's the smoothest way forward.

And for $100 more, ill throw in the siruis/xm adapter, all harnesses and the adapter plates for the doors for the 6.5" speakers and tweeters

How much with out the sub? I have a zr1. That sub is a no go. Looks like a potential buyer for the sub above.

$1000. I've got a sub and box for a zr1 too. Its a Sundown Audio SA10. It's a great sub, in a box that was made specifically for it. I'd include it for the $1300.

The non-Bose base system is really not that bad. I would just swap the head unit see how you like that. I've heard the factory radio output is pretty terrible.

The main issue is that everyone gives up on the original system design because finding replacement speakers for the doors that are shallow enough to fit is near impossible. They always swap out the large door woofers with 6.5s and add a sub to gain back what they sacrifice. That doesn't work for all. I actually use both my cubbies and all of the hatch area very frequently as my car is my daily driver.

I concur. I would be all over this like white on rice. I would probably want to sell the 4200 and get an Alpine as I prefer the sound of the Alpine over the Pioneer but those are still great components at a great price.

Update:

I have pretty much decided to look for a 5 channel amp that will also push a stealth sub that I will put in a rear cubby hole. If I go this route, I will put the 5 channel amp in the other cubby hole.

Still researching however.
