I use to put my iPhone in the center console since that is where the USB port is. This would be a perfect location if it wasn’t for the fact the center console get so freaking hot. After a decent drive I would pull my phone out and it was way too hot. I then went with the stick in the cup holder method but did like they why it looked. I am now using a ProClip mount with a magnet attached to it. My iPhone case has a metal plate on the back. So when I get in, I just hook up the cable and place it on the mount.
I did have to reshape the RAM Mount bottom bracket to fit the indentation on the floor.
This has worked for me in various different cars for a few years now.
With this setup I very often display one thing on the iPhone screen and another on the receiver screen. For example, Waze on the iPhone and Pandora on the receiver screen via CarPlay
