Default Radar Detector

Does anyone know if a radar detector would still function properly if it was inside of a thin, empty cardboard box? I called Uniden and they couldn't answer

I am pretty sure that you need unobstructed line-of-sight in order for it to function properly.....especial for LIDAR ("light detection and ranging"....)

I'd say laser=no, radar=yes. Why? You can buy a stealth install radar detector and the receivers can be mounted behind your bumper skin. Laser is light, so block the light and no detection.

Yes, a pure Radar detector will work just fine behind a layer of cardboard, plastic, wood or fiberglass. There are some high-end remote detectors which mount the Radar sensors in the front and rear bumper covers. Laser sensors need an unobstructed line of sight and the remote sensors are often mounted in the front and rear license plate wells.

It’s easy to run power behind the mirror. Remove the back cover, run switched power wire to the purple with white stripe and ground wire to black with white stripe. I power a V1 with RJ11 invisacord or similar purchased from Amazon. Whole process takes about 10 minutes.

I ordered a kit from Amazon. It’s actually the suction cup mount that came with the detector. The kit...around $10 is just a flat piece of metal that attaches to the mount to allow use of velcro or double sided mounting tape in place of the suction cups. It works great and never comes off

Is your Invisicord fused, and what length is it? Tia.

This one doesn’t have an in-line fuse but you can get them with one. The cord I used is 14” long

2020 VSN did you have to modify the pins before sticking them into the back of the plug in anyway and was it a tight fit when you put the cover back on?
Thank you

No modification to the plugs and no issues re-installing the cover. It’s an easy 10 minute job.

Any more details on that kit? When I search Amazon I only find big, ugly suction cup mounts for $25+. Do you know the brand, model #, etc. of the kit?

TIA
