Default 6 1/2's in 91

Has anyone put in 6 1/2's in the kick panels for the 1991 vette. I have CDT's cl-61's with 2.25 mounting depth and I was wondering if anyone else has experimented with this. Pictures are great guys?!?!?! Do you guys know of any kickpanels you can buy....ie Q-forms....or did you modify the current kickpanel? Ideas??

you have the same basic problem I do... except I wanna do 3 ways!!!!!

now...

you can fit 6.5"s in there... but you won't be able to use the factory enclosures. you will need to build some boxes. Qforms does not make anything that will help us here... dammit. I tried to lookup the Qforms site, but its down... and one of the other sites I check show "no longer available".

get some 1/4" MDF and a jig saw and start guessing... :) thats what I am gonna do...

Gee I just got some Alpine 5 1/4, 2.75" deep mounting depth, today for the front sill pods. I have yet to strip my Pioneers out but will update over the weekend how I figure this one out.

My Pioneer pics for the pods are back on the C4 Bose Replacement thread I did. I will take new pics of the final install of the sill pods and the outcome. The Pioneer were 1/2 " domes and the Alpines are 1" silk domes.

I may opt to mount the tweeters externally but on the sill pod, some minor cuts or drill holes required. Reason is to really for aiming of the tweeters. The Alpine has 3 different mounting rings for this. I'm thinking the stock pod locations really limit ideal imaging, my only complaint.

I know pillar mounting is probably a good choice but want to keep the coherence of the bass drivers in proximity. Any suggestions on tweeter mounts would be appreciated. I will let you know my results after some tests tommorow.

The Alpine drivers will most likely need a MDF ring to elevate and add depthe so the pod can accomodate the larger magnet. I'm not expecting much more bass out of the pod and may build a box but I'm rather lazy right now.

I'm thinking dynamat all the way around the pod for damping and perhaps fiberglass buildup around the existing mold to strengthen...may provide more bass that way...but these are just ideas right now. :smash: :conehead

That's what I did. Took a day to build but I love the result. It was a PITA as each side is a completely different design due to the hand brake location. Sorry, no pics.
