Instead of filling the usable trunk space with audio equipment, the rear wall of the trunk was used instead. A mounting plate was machined out of 1/4" aluminum and black anodized; it also acts as a heat sink for the amp.

A five channel amp, digital voltmeter and trunk latch were attached to the front of the mounting plate.
Front view, the large pocket with the blue tape on it is where the capacitor module fits.
Next, a capacitor module was made using six 350 Farad supercaps in series for a total of 58 Farads and includes a black lexan trim cover. Each Maxwell supercap is the size of a D cell battery but much lighter.
The trim and trunk latch were removed from the back trunk wall and metal supports were added to the outside to mount the main plate.
All the components were assembled to the trunk wall except the trim covers. The latch assembly needed to be extended out to it's original position so a trunk pull down system was added in that space.
A protective aluminum rod was added and all the trim covers are on except for the trunk latch which wasn't made yet. The total thickness of the assembled plate, supercap, amp and trim covers is 1.5" resulting in more usable trunk space not less.
Finished except for the latch cover.
