Anyone out there with pictures of their C5 door speaker install? Please post!
6 1/2's, 8" subs, 3 way sep... If you got'em, post'em! Looking for ideas. I really like the idea of the 8" IB4's from Jl audio!
This is a very good topic. I am doing this right now. Those pics are nice and the custom plates look good. I may only modify the current plate instead of making a new one. I haven't made up my mind yet.
After taking out the Bose drivers and looking them over, I realized why the stock system sounded so bad. There is plenty of space behind the plate. GM should have at least had a plastic enclosure for a standard design woofer, instead of the stock inverted magnet (pancake woofer), which is self sealed on the back. I know that they wanted to save weight, but very few C5 owners are happy with the stock system. I would like to see more custom stuff. Those already posted are nice.
I can send ya a picture which I used 8" MTX old blue thunder and Infinity perfect T tweeter since my free website does not allow me to link to pix.

What is the grey material? do the stock speaker grills cover the speakers? How did you make the cutout for the plate?
When you dinomat the door do you put the mat on the inside of the door pane as well as the outside?
How does it sound? Do you have any other subs in the car or are you just using these in the doors?
:)
*edit*
Are those 8"s or 10"s in the doors mike76002?
Also... can anyone tell me if I would be able to fit the 8" subs in the doors with a set of 5.25" comps from jl along with it without cutting the door?
I was first using this setup, then I changed my mind (always do :D ) and set up 5 1/4 Diamond Audio M551, then upgrade the 5 1/4 mid to OZ 6 1/2 mid but still not much satisfy ... The reason, I changing them since when I use the 8"'s, the door rattle when it hit the low bass notes, but when changed to DA or OZ, the doors are still rattle so I went back to these 8"'s since they give me the bass in the front and Infinity peefect T tweeters are perfect :D
Yes, I also have 12" sub in the back.
I am putting Dynamat and using speaker baffle now to hope the rattle will go away. I am so busy at work so did not have to to finish everything ... I'll keep yall updated.

The biggest i have seen is a 4" speaker with an 8" Jl IB4 "Free-air" sub(it was tight) If your looking for larger, check out the Infinity reference and their ulitimate speaker, the Kappa line. These new speakers boast a 30% larger cone surface area b/c of their new "over the top mounting design" Infinity's 4" speaker is supposed to sound and put of the decibels of a 5.25". I have had the old inifinity reference model and they flat out rock. The Kappa line up needs a lot of juice to power them though.

Grey material? ... the frames are 3/4" MDF - I think this is what you were asking about ... the grey material in the pic is my concrete driveway ...
The stock grills cover the speakers perfectly - there's plenty of clearance.
I drew a pattern on paper from the stock bose assembly - then placed the speakers on it where they seemed to fit best. ... transferred the patteren to the wood and cut it with a sideways cutting bit and my dremel.
Yep - I dynamatted the inside of the door too. (see pic below) There's a protective bar that goes across the middle of the door - I just knew it was going to vibrate against the plastic exterior at high volumes. I also wanted to dynamat the seams of the door - just in case. It worked - so far I've got zero rattles or buzzes - even with U2 cranked up!

one of my favorite brands of car audio just released something extremely attractive to the C5 guys. i'm fairly sure dynaudio is building these for phoenix gold and there's a few really really cool features about this set. see the link at the bottom to get to what i'm talking about. first off there's a 9" midbass but the damn thing is only 2.5" deep. no that's not a misprint, also uses a 3"vc for a 175/300 watt rating. even better it's matched to a 5" midrange and 28mm tweeter all with a nice cross over. i'm dying to hear a set of these in a c5 sometime soon as it looks like one of the best buys on the market now. matched components, a great name and a great design that has such a slim mount depth !! http://www.phoenixgold.com/tielitecomp.html

I wonder if those three pcs will fit in the door? That system looks like it'd rock. How is phoenixgold for quality? I've heard of phoenixgold amps are they good?
