Not Corvette related but I wanted to post some pictures of my home theater sub system I'm building.
Picture of one of the four 21" subs (CD for size reference)
3/4" MDF boxes. Next to the boxes is two 12" subwoofers that were in one of my C5s
I got the 1/4" oak plywood on the sides already and this shows the 3/4" solid oak fronts on two of them.
First 21" cut of the oak. Made quite the mess.
My brother broke the blade of the jigsaw. Oak is a hard wood. We used a router to cut the circle to keep it perfectly round.
Got the 3/4" top glued on. If you look closely, you'll see the fronts are made from four boards glued together.
I still have a lot to do. Got to route the two tops to fit the sides. Then quarter round the ports and outside edges though I'm debating a edge route, hmmmnnnn. Then TONS of sanding. Finally, I'm going with a natural color so just sealing followed by two coats of gloss varnish to match the cabinets they are going next too.
You are correct, they will not fit along side of these cabinets. This is a picture of them at my old house, in my new house I have tons of room. Note the two Crown amps on top of the cabinets, they each will put out 2,400 watts rms into a 4 ohm load. So I'll have a whopping 4,800 watts rms going into four 21" subs that can handle 6,800 watts rms. My girlfriend thinks I'l be breaking windows, she might be right
Yep, a 36" Toshiba. Heavy as all can be. Probably purchased around 1999? So yeah, 20 years old but for now it still works so sticking with it. When it dies I'll get a really nice LED to replace, like a Samsung QLED I have upstairs.

They might a tad. I have the Infinity SM series speakers which are extremely efficient. The front speakers are SM-152s and are 102 db efficient. The center channel is quite loud too as it has two 6.5" speakers along with the same tweeter as the mains. The surrounds are JBL SP8II with a 8" woofer and 1" tweeter. I also have a set of SM-82 that I'm thinking of running up front too as I have free amplifier channels. My goal was to have a system that has bass like my cars/truck do.
Just one of my C5s. In it I have the Infinity Perfect series speakers and JBL amps. Two sets of the 6.1s up front and three 12" subs in rear. Total wattage is 1920 rms.
If you blend them in right it should sound pretty good..especially with super loud movies..put on Transformers..should knock the ceiling down. O once knocked a picture off the wall with the tank shot from Behind Enemy Lines.
Those things are some monsters, they otta shake the house, that's for sure. Did you build that setup in the back of your Vette yourself also ? I have a pretty good surround system also, all separate top of the line Yamaha components, with all Klipsch speakers, I also have a 14' diagonal projection screen with a Epson 3D video projector................and a cat. It's an awesome system for movies.

Yes, with the major help of a friend with way more talent than I. "and a cat" I have a dog and four cats (1 mine, 3 girlfriends)
Getting further, got the cabinets sealed and one coat of varnish done. I just need to put another coat of varnish on, transport the speaker boxes to the basement from the detached garage, then mount the subwoofers.
Do you have an RTA? Does your receiver have DSP capability at all? If you dial everything in, I bet it would sound pretty damn good. (And loud! 4800W RMS?!?! Good god.)
RTA = real time analyzer? If so, no I do not.
Yep, receiver has DSP. I just installed the JBL SP 8IIs yesterday into the drywall, what a PITA to do. Used 12 gauge wiring. Also had an electrician install two 20 amp dedicated outlets for the subwoofer amps. At my old house I just used one Crown K2 to run two JL Audio 18W6s and the room lights would flicker with the bass. I'm hoping the dedicated outlets will prevent this (though it was kind of cool, lol)
Lol...that's a lot of power. Yes, Real Time Analyzer. Maybe find a friend that knows about tuning and software and throw him a 12 pack for tuning the house.
Oh, they are HEAVY. I'm waiting to mount the subwoofers until the boxes are in the my basement close to where they will be placed. Though, since the subwoofers have a neodymium magnet, they "only" weigh 37 lbs each
Excellent , I built similar in 1984 , with a 12 inch , they are in the garage today , but still performing like champs , I replaced the woofer about 6 years ago. PYLE driver in them now.
Looks killer. I do find it odd to put 21's (4 of them no less!) in a ported box when you have tons of power. You should have plenty of extension without it and insane SPL right? Was the port necessary to get the SPL you wanted because your boxes are too small due to space limitations?

The company that made the speakers recommended one box and one box only. A ported box at 4.59 cubic ft. When calculating the driver and port displacement, we ended up at a solid 5.4 cubic ft. Yeah, big and heavy box, especially since the walls are up to 1.5 inches thick.
Personally, I do like sealed enclosures even though they don't produce as much SPL as ported boxes do. Sealed boxes seem to have more "punch" and control.
Finally found time to get the second coat of varnish on. Now to get the basement stereo done so when I find more time I can get the subwoofer boxes from the detached garage in the house.
Got a little further but not yet done. Hooking up my system I found out I was lacking some cable so got some on order (KnuKonceptz)
Anyhow, Got two of the boxes transferred from the external garage to the basement. Then I went ahead and mounted two of the 21" subs.
Something that sux, and I never even planned for as I didn't know wood would darken that much, is even though everything is red oak and finished with the exact same sealer and varnish, the sub cabinets and entertainment cabinets don't match. Yes, the entertainment cabinets are 20 years older but I never thought a natural sealed wood would darken like that.
