My radio/navigation screen will not come on but the USB stick and radio still plays. No controls work until the screen decides to come back on again, which lasts only until I turn the car off again. When it does work, but I have to turn off the car, I can restart an hour or two weeks later and it will be playing at the same volume as it was when it last worked. But again, no controls will work. I have to put a music-less USB stick in to get it to shut up.
Is there a fix for this? Could it be my fobs? If not, I guess I'll be getting an aftermarket head unit. If it comes down to that, does anyone know of any good DIY head unit install vids?
I would suggest disconnecting the battery to the car for a few minutes. It may not help, but it's worth a shot. Forcing the navigation unit to completely shut down from loss of power, and then rebooting, maybe that can get things working properly again. If it doesn't, chances are it may be time for a replacement. Full disclosure, most of us would tell you to replace the factory nav unit even if it was working properly.
I know for early C6s there was a TSB for this issue, but your profile says you have a 2012 so I doubt that would apply. I am attaching the TSB.
Do you know if the car came from the factory with the navigation radio?
How old is the car battery? With these modern cars a weak battery can cause all sorts of gremlins.
