Hello all, not to long ago I acquired a 13 GS with the Bose Factory System. Shortly after acquiring so, I noticed my passenger side woofer was blown. I have searched this forum reading many posts and want to be sure I'm understanding everything correctly. Preface, I am planning to keep the system stock including the factory amp (have tossed around the idea of switching the HU, but will cross that bridge at a later point). I talked with a rep at Crutchfield and they recommended this product to best work with the factory amp - not sure if anyone has any experience with this product: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_151OE6...***-OE-6C.html
From also reading through these forums, I've seen a few members state that they've had success with the MB Quart Discus 10" or Rockford subs as substitutes, but not sure if that only works with aftermarket amps, etc. I guess the point of what I'm getting at, should I go with what Crutchfield recommended, replace with a different woofer, OR because I'm keeping everything factory just trying to purchase another OEM Bose woofer?
DO NOT USE WHAT CRUTCHFIELD ADVISOR RECOMMENDED. It is the wrong size, wrong impedence. Will sound terrible and you will return it.
Easiest thing for your case would be to get a factory bose woofer. Anything else will require some modification... mounting adapter, connector, etc...
I agree. Crutchfield is wrong on this one. OP, you can get the stock door woofers from RockAuto.com. And change your head unit! Can't stress that last part enough.
I really appreciate everyone’s input! I was unsure about that recommendation, so thank you for steering me away from there. Vince I believe if I remember correctly that it was you who installed the MB Quart speakers, would those also work as a replacement or no since I’m planning to keep the system stock? If no, would you mind briefly sharing the technical reason just so I can understand it all? Thanks!
Yes, I "upgraded" because I wasn't too happy with the stock sound. If you're happy with the stock system, then just replace 1 speaker. If you plan on having the same illness most of us here have, then let the mod madness begin!
I chose the the Discus 10 because it can play free- air and they were on sale. I was impressed with how they sounded on the stock astockDoes it sound better? YES! Will it satisfy an audiophile? No, not without a stronger amp and sound deadening.
In fact, I'm still running the exact same woofers in my C7. Someday soon, I'll finally finish my install @Pb82 Ronin ..
