Black Electrical box
Thanks Scott
3 Wires:
One thick power wire coming from the battery (should also be fused near the battery somewhere)
Another thick power wire going to a ground bolt (or the negative on the battery)
1 skinny switched power wire (running from the head unit)
8 Wires:
1 positive and one negative running to each speaker (front left, front right, rear left, rear right).
Should be a name on it somewhere? Also it might not be your problem or more likely not your only problem. If you are going to tackle it I'm going to guess that the best bet is just to budget a new system from scratch. Since you have no idea what you have or what it's rated for, or what condition it is in.
If it's period correct I guess you could try to get it restored (if you are into that sort of thing) but that's probably a bit of an investment (and I don't think 70's car audio tech was particularly good) but it probably is relatively simple to repair (though incredibly dangerous, don't eff with amp internals without training). Could also be something someone added in the 90's or something, in which case you just want to trash it probably.
