I have a pretty extensive stereo background. The issue is, that was 20 years ago. I took out the factory stereo in the car immediately for a Sony screen with Carplay, backup cam etc. Totally easy.
I then swapped out the top door speakers and disconnected the center speaker, just not happy at all with the sound.
Still can't stand the sound. I am not looking for great as I don't drive it every day. It sounds like it is over amplified, tinny, and almost harsh. I have tried 2 decks, every setting, same thing.
Is there a better way to send source to the amp. I am just using the stock speaker outputs from the Sony to the speaker wires that go to the amp then to the speakers. Can I use a line level, but almost in reverse and use the RCA out on the Sony to low level speaker out to the amp and then on to allow the amp to do its job?
I understand that I can always direct wire, but I am not sure where the crossovers are etc. the base levels out of the stock door woofers is great.
I hope someone understands my dilemma. I love this car, but cannot stand listening to the radio and I have never run into this type of situation before.
Which interface are you using? Which speakers did you use for the top of the doors?
I used the Crux SOCGM-17C Wiring Interface from crutchfiled. Some sony 3.5 in the doors, rest stock.
It sounded acceptable all stock, but went to hell when I swapped the deck.
deck. Just sounds over amplified and annoying. Never experienced anything like it even with crap or stock speakers.
To be honest, I've never used that adapter. I've always used the pac rp5-gm11 in all if my C6 installs. Never a problem like you describe. The Crux has bose/nonbose inputs. You certain that you have non bose and connected it to the non bose input? Also some radios have a loud or powerful eq preset that makes it sound like how you describe it. Check your connections, eq settings and if all ok, I suggest sending that back to Crutchfield and getting a Kenwood with a PAC adapter.

My man, you didn't nail it, but you nailed the idea! I knew for sure I had used the non bose side, but you had the right idea. I got to thinking you use the bose side to step it down for the factory bose amp. Well, even non bose has an amp, so why not USE the bose plug and see. So today I got home and dug in. Ripped it apart in 30 minutes. It was in the non bose as I suspected and should be. Set volume to 10 and its harsh. Swap plug over to the bose side, volume cuts by more than half and sounds "normal". Crank it to 20 and wow, it's almost great. Its good, but not great. Button everything up and go for a spin. I have B&B Bullets and they are loud. The acoustics driving around going through gears is awesome in comparison.
My man, thank you for taking the time to help me think. You have helped me enjoy my car so much more going forward!
So indeed, use the bose plug for both bose and non bose in my opinion creates a more normal, even sound. So happy right now! Most likely make the amp last longer as well. Thanks Buddy!
Yep, all the sound systems in the C6 have an amplifier be it a Bose or NonBose system.
I agree Pete.
To the OP, Installation instructions are exactly the same for Bose and non-Bose. The Crux is misleading as you need to use the "Bose" side for any system that has an amplifier, including the non-Bose base systems. So in a C6, all need to use the Bose side, since every C6 has an amp.

Thanks Fred, but I have to admit, I learned that fact from you

I should say, "the proper installation steps". But you get my point, lol. This comes up quite often and you are not the first person to fall victim to this. Big misconception is that it makes a difference if you have the Bose or non-Bose, when in fact it doesn't, and every C6 has to follow the same install steps. Hopefully your thread saves someone else from the hassle of going through the same headache.

I am still disappointed in myself that I didn't think of and catch it to begin with. Been out of the game too long. I worked on 97 silverados and 01 cavaliers. Times have changed!
Thanks to all that helped. I can't believe I waited a year to investigate.

Don't be to hard on yourself, like Fred mentioned you're by no means the first person who's made this mistake and I'm sure won't be the last. The instructions that come with these interfaces aren't much help either.
