I know this has been covered in great length, but not finding exactly what I'm looking to do in a search. Have '97 coupe. Have replaced the rear speakers with aftermarket and have replaced the head unit with a Sony deck that supports Apple Car Play. Looking to tackle the door speakers. I see some people will replace the stock 8" midbass and 3" twiddler with a 6.5" component set. Others will leave the stock 8" and just replace the twiddler with a 3.5" coaxial speaker. I would like to use the Metra adapter and install a low profile 6.5" subwoofer (Kicker DVC) and cut in a 3.5" coaxial into the adapter. Can I run the coaxial speaker off the deck and the 6.5" sub off the bose amp? I believe the stock 8" is 1 or two ohm. The Kicker sub is dual 4ohm, so I would run in parallel at 2ohm. Has anyone done this or see any issue with this plan? I'm not interested in running another amp and would otherwise just run 6.5" speakers off the deck. Thanks,
Output of the factory amp will 1/2 of it's current output.
if it's 50 watts at 1 ohm, then you're looking at 25 watts at 2 ohms. Only you can determine if that's enough for you. Personally, going through all the things you're doing, throwing in a micro 2 or 4 ch amp would be worth it.
I put in an Alpine ktu amp right behind the head unit..its that small but puts out 45 watts. I run Focal components in the doors but did put in a 500 watt amp for the sub as they need a lot of power. The bose stuff is not worth messing with..
I ran kicker 8" subs in the door without using an adapter, and a pair of audiofrogs 2.5".
Was not really happy with it -- the subs are great, but you really need a midrange in the doors, like a 6.5. I recently removed the kickers and dropped in 6.5" morels.
Here's what the setup looked like with the 8" kickers
