Thanks to all the forum members who have helped in answering my questions and suggesting different things. I have swayed back and forth from just adding a sub with a custom box to changing the factory speakers.
After all the help and research I have been able to accomplish this so far and we'll see how it would sound after I get it installed. and I would definitely post some pics.
You guys could let me know how YOU think it would sound...........after its put together. :D
Arc 4150
For fronts: JL IB4s, Facal TN45 tweeters and X260 dynaudio crossover.
For Rears: Boston Acoustic RC 620's
if you can get the Focal TN51's instead of the TN45's, I think you'd like it a lot better. (they are smoother and more detailed... more expensive of course)
I don't know anything about the speakers you're using as mids...
What's the crossover point on that X260?
Thanks Nevermind. Yes I had an option of TN51 but they were a bit too expensive and I got a pretty good deal for TN45's on ebay.
The crossover point is about 2500 Hz. I am going to try to put it altogether and once I have the ground work done for the amp and the cables swapping the speakers wouldn't be that difficult if I don't like something.
I got the tn45's for $90 and the tn51s bid is starting at $140 and it will probably go up from there. From the audio shop I was getting the tn51s for $269.
Hmmmm...........I haven't thought about it. What can I use to do the time delay and how much would really be? and what could be the consequences if I don't use the delay would it be too off??
Doing time delays in a system isn't cheap. You usually need digital filters in the head unit or a signal processor to do it. The inside of a car is so small though, it's not really worth it. You get so many reflections that cancellation happens anyway.
all the nicer alpine head units do it, and clarion has a cheap one available, actually.
Well, with 4 speakers, it may put the soundstag eslightly behind you and to the right. But with those loud focal tweeters, it may bring it "forward enough"
drives some people nuts when the stage isn't perfect.. others simply don't care.
get a nice alpine head unit, and you'll have the ability to tweak it and bring your stage up front better.
i just ordered a dsp from Zeb for my clarion unit.. although I only run front speakers, I need to do a little delay to make it perfect. I'm one those people. :D
My two cents would be to try to get a set of components instead of build your own for the front. The makers usually design the components and crossovers to be a mated set and compensate for shortcomings of the other parts. When you combine parts from different makers, it is really difficult to get a good flat sound curve and optimal crossover points to maximize the potential of the equipment. Could work but its dicey. Also, I like focal mids more than JL by a long shot. It also depends what you can get within your budget though. Good luck.
